Polygons Breaking up? Not sure how this happens

PostSun Dec 13, 2015 11:19 pm

Good evening dear forum.

I'm having quite a bit of fun with Fusion 8 Beta 2 on the Mac. However I'm at a lost with is composition's polygons breaking up for a few frames, but otherwise being OK.

Here's the video showing the issue:

The problems occur at 00:02 and finish at 00:05.

I have 32GB of RAM, and this composition renders OK up until 00:02, taking about 2 seconds per frame to render. It then jumps to 57 seconds per frame until around 00:07 when it speeds up to about 42 seconds per frame. Fusion consumes about 20GB of RAM.

I'd appreciate any advice or pointers.

Regards

Andy

I can't download it here but looking at the video, are there any overlapping polygons in that area? Sometimes if polys share the same space they can compete to occlude each other. Another option would be to check the mesh in your app to make sure the vertices are welded and there isn't any funky geometry going on there.

There is an option in the mask fill method, change it to zero-winding

Based on the object-specific issue, I'd bet fairly large amounts of money on Jeff's theory. You have two "doorways" there, completely coincident, and the flickering is just floating point error in the positions of the vertices or fragments.

Double thanks chaps.

The Turbosquid team are going to run some checks on the collection. I'll look for mask fill and I may try setting the Saver to PNG. The PNG method creates huge directories, but seems to solve the odd issues I come across.

Beta 3 -- Re: Polygons Breaking up? Not sure how this happen

I've tested this composition again using Fusion 8 Beta 3 as issued today.

I can confirm that the same polygon issues exist, but they are different shapes.

Switching to the software renderer in both Beta 2 and Beta 3 fixes the polygon issue, but of course the scene looks different.

This can also be clipping plain issue. make sure the Camera clipping range is like 1 to 1000, this would give the Zbuffer better resolution to deal with polys at the same position.

Steve, I'm getting the same issues on another polygon rich project as well, Here's my camera settings for this composition:

Fix? Re: Polygons Breaking up? Not sure how this happens

PostWed Dec 23, 2015 10:35 pm

Steve

I changed the numbers Near - Far to 1 and 600 and then went to the frame numbers that used to show the polygon break up. In those frames, the polygons are now behaving (I;m on Beta3 now). It used to take about 34 Hours to render this scene, so I'll set a render going when I finish up this evening.

I'm getting this right now with a dense poly OBJ - 466K tris. The object has no overlapping polys, odd geometry, or anything I can detect - it renders fine in Lightwave and Element3D. But parts of the model show this same breakup. Clipping planes adjustments are not making any difference.

What is the mask fill method that Rony mentioned? I cannot find mention of this term in either the user guide or the tool reference.

This is Windows Fusion 8.2 Build 2. I have 64Gb RAM and running a single Titan Black with the latest driver.
i7 4930 3.40Ghz 64Gb DDR3
Titan Black 6Gb - Driver 384.76
Win 10 Pro 64bit
Resolve 14.5 beta 5
