Did not buy it for UM4.6k but is a very good and big camera bag:

Nice! Thanks!

I might be traveling to the US in a near future and I'm looking for a bag/case that will carry all of the UM46 stuff plus follow focus, mattebox, maybe lenses... I can't check in any kind of gear (they tend to disappear here in Argentina).
That bag does look nice...

URSA Mini carrying case

PostMon May 16, 2016 3:45 am

Thanks, Nick. Just keep an eye on total weight of each carry-on bag for the airlines you are flying. I agree I have no plans to check-in a bag for cargo when it represents several thousand dollars of easily sellable merchandise. We all know you can't trust many lawyers, but high up on the list are baggage handlers (apologies to all honest baggage handlers) for international flights.

I had wanted to order a Cinebags CB23, but then I realized a backpack may be more versatile but needs to fit your body so it just should be purchased from a store. Mail order brides probably have a greater chance of 'fitting' your needs than a backpack. If you have things to ship cargo, the Pelican 1510 with 1514 inserts is great and meets airline carry-on requirements:

I am using two Peli 1510 cases for my BMCC and my lenses. The only thing I don't like is that when trollying the case the wheels are very loud and can't be used on uneven ground.

Do you travel with those cases? Do airlines accept you bringing in two carry-ons?

How do you guys place or position the camera in the case?

On its base or side? Does it matter for the camera itself?

I use pelican cases and when you pack them, the case sits flat but that is not usually the way it sits in transit (usually on the side opposite the handle) so the camera will be lying differently to the way you pack it? Make sense??

I used to have a Sony xdcam and I would pack it on its side so it was vertical when the case was upright.

Just after some advice on how best to pack my ursa mini... If I lay it on its side I can leave the top handle and shoulder kit tripod plate all attached and just connect the grip and evf (if using).

Thanks for any advice

I just took delivery of the Porta Brace CTC UrsaMini travel case.

Although they're not toting it as a carry-on size it does fit within the dimensions of most major carriers carry-on specs. It's also about the same size as my Think Tank Airport Security V2 case which I take on board all the time. Neither fit on most regional jet planes though so you really need to know the equipment your booked on first.

For my taste it could be a few inches shorter but has plenty of room to keep the viewfinder, rails, V-lock battery, and shoulder kit on even with a Sony quick release plate on the bottom.

With the lenses, audio kit, and 7" Video Assist, along with two Nikon bodies in the Think Tank it seems to have a good work-flow to the setup. I also have a RedRock Matte box and Follow-focus in a LowelPro shoulder bag so a three bag solution for now.

Received my new hard case today. The same case I ordered back in January when I first got the Ursa mini 4K. Long story short, the store screwed up and I left the store with a ThinkTank Streetwalker Harddrive backpack. The Thinktank has been great even though its made for DSLR. I just had to have something to trasport the Ursa in because I was moving to another county.

My new case is the 2550W from HPRC and so far I couldn't be more pleased (not had it for more then a few hours). The only thing that could have been better is the weight! The weight isn't a problem at if your not flying. The case is accepted as a carry on. I feel a lot safer transporting the camera now and it won't brake my back!

Edit - I ended up purchasing the SACHTLER DR. BAG - 3 through Adorama however while searching for it, I did locate a similar bag that has 4" less height which could work with the URSA Mini perhaps. With its smaller footprint, perhaps this would be better for air travel. I'm considering ordering it to compare with the Dr Bag 3.

Here is the smaller one I found :
Sachtler Camporter Shoulder Bag for Video Camera with Microphone and Accessories, Large
SKU: SCSC206 MFR: SC206
Internal: 20.5 x 11 x 9.8" / 52.07 x 27.94 x 24.89cm
External: 22.4 x 12.6 x 11" / 56.90 x 32.00 x 27.94cm

I recommend the Under Armour Storm Hustle . I have had my same under armour backpack for 3 years, everything this works, no rips, or broken zippers. It comfortable and durable. With five different compartments I can organize my bag, i don't have to throw everything in one compartment. Ever since I got this product I don't think I'll go back to the other products.

Crisanne, a very good general purpose backpack, but I don't know if this is suitable for carrying the URSA Mini and gear. Is this what you are using for your Mini? Thanks.

B&W Outdoor Case Type 90

I have several of those cases since years. They saw a ton of rough abuse, but still going strong. My favorite cases. A ton of pockets all around, tough like a Peli, back carrying system, and a nice price.

I also bought a Porta-Brace: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... e_for.html
It's roomy, well made, designed so that you don't have to remove the EVF.
Fits nice with shoulder kit, v-mount battery, EVF, and a Sigma 50-100 lens in place.

Yes, Rick, I can leave the baseplate or shoulder mount and EVF and top handle on and it all fits nicely in the case. There's even a removable wedge to leave the battery on for transport. I have pretty much every piece of non-electronic camera hardware all in one case now (monitors, batteries and wireless are in separate cases).

Have to remove the handle too, but since I have a rod system on top, instead the original handle, it takes just a few seconds, to slip my Tilta grip on the rods.

It can carry the Ursa Mini while fully assembled; just loosen the extension arm and swing it back against the body. There's room for plenty of extras too. And it has "interior led lighting." Seriously. When will they make one with a massager and espresso machine?

Of course, for the truck or studio, I would use something more durable. I like those hardware store cases. That's my next stop.

Hi, I'm looking for a maximum volume airline carry on case for an ursa 4.6k. The 1510 is 5.5kg empty, with most carry on limits 10kg in the uk. I don't need wheels. I don't even really need that much rigidity.

The 1535 is lighter but a lot more expensive
the IM2500 storm is about the same weight as the 1510

A bare plastic lightweight shell with one handle would be great. With the ability to install dividers preferably.

Thanks

I had been using a Pelican 1650 for my BMCC rig, but wanted to go with something a little lighter and more portable for my URSA Mini, so I picked up one of these from Cinebags.

Camera body, matte box, follow focus, ND Filters, and 1st AC monitor all fit pretty easily in there. I can even fit a couple batteries in there if I need to pack light and mobile, but I usually carry those in a separate container for bigger shoots.

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... Black.html

I keep the lenses in a Pelican Storm IM2700 that I bought from Duclos.

Anyone tried the newish Pelican Air (e.g. 1535) with an Ursa mini? Looking for a carry on option for the camera. The regular Pelican 1510 "carry on" is already 7kgs without anything inside...

So I had been searching for a Bag to quickly carry my fully rigged Ursa Mini in for local shoots where I want to be able to pull it out of the bag, ready to go. Most bags that were big enough seemed to run upwards of $200 for something that was solid. So I went to Home Depot and found this tool bag for $50 (online), $70 in store. It's a Husky 24" Big Field Duffle. I can fit my Ursa Mini 4.6k with Shoulder rig, top handle, mattebox, and Extension arm. I took the Handle off of the extension arm because if I leave it on it has to sit more centered in the bag and then I couldn't fit the inserts that I have to hold extra stuff. Those inserts that I have in there are just sock drawer collapsable inserts that I got at Ikea for like 10 dollars. But yea, so I can fit the fully rigged mini with some space for extra stuff, like as you see in the picture, my 24-105mm and 70-200mm, and then I have room to throw in an extra battery or other miscellaneous items. And there's a front pouch where I can put power cords and things like that. The bag is huge, is probably not something you'd want to be traveling on plane with, but for a local shoot where I just want to quickly pull out the camera and shoot it seems to work great. Very sturdy bag and pretty cheap.

It has 5/5 stars and for good reason. You can shove tons of gear into it, it's fairly rugged, and very affordable. Take a look at what I'm able to pack inside.

I've been hauling it around for a few shoots now and it's help up perfectly although I suspect the handle on the top may eventually snap from the weight so I carry it mostly by the shoulder straps.

Best of all, it's nicely padded compartment on the bottom that fits the mini perfectly (with all parts removed aside from the battery plate).

EDIT: Forgot to mention there's a slot in the back that can fit a slim macbook air sized laptop also.

NICE!!! Thanks for sharing. Now I just have to choose between yours and this one: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1282532-REG/tenba_637_511_cineluxe_backpack_21_black.html

Resurrecting this thread because I have a need for a UMP G2 case. I keep my UMP G2 and its entire rig in a Pelican 1650 case. However when I am doing a walk-about shoot, I don't need to bring all of the gear and want to be able to just slip in/out the entire ready to shoot setup (see below).

I just need a cheap carrying case that will let me keep the camera in the car that will hold the setup. I'm looking for something in the size of 19"L x 10"W x 9.5"H internal dimension that can protect the cam. I want to make it easy to just slip out and put back in the bag without having to take it apart.

I saw this on Amazon which looks fitting but I have my reservations. I'm not carry this around. It's more to secure the camera while in the car and when I am transporting it from car to hotel room and vice versa. What do you guys think? Any other case that will do the same without breaking the bank?

Been there! I got an old Portabrace bag with the "doctor bag" style opening for $45 on eBay. There's lots of tempting solutions on Amazon but I was concerned they weren't rigid enough to hold a rig as heavy as an Ursa can be.

The Portabrace are nice however I prefer to buy it new. I had a knock-off "doctor bag" before and it was suppose to be heavy duty but one day I was climbing a flight of stairs and had the strap on my shoulder when the rings holding the strap snap and the bag fell to the ground. That's why I'm hesitating. One low cost alternative are tool bags which are design to carry a lot of weight. This one looks doable and can carry up to 100 lbs of load. That's more than enough for the URSA. It's a wide-mouth bag so it is easy to put in/pull out a setup URSA. Plus you can't beat the price.

There's several folks on YT also using the Apache 5800 hard shell case as an alternative to the Pelican for the URSA Mini which understand can be carried on to a plane too. It has the added weight but the price is reasonable.

I might get a couple when it is back in stock at the local store for my Pocket 6K and the Canon C200.

After looking for a lot of bags online these past few days, I have decide to pay a bit of a premium to secure my UMP G2 while traveling and not get one of the cheap bags from Amazon. I ended up ordering the Sachtler Camporter bag. Hope it is as what the specs and positive reviews says.

I've gone with the Tenba Cinelux 24. It's massive and holds everything camera wise I need for a 1 man shoot.
As you can see, all I need to do is attach the V-mount and I'm shooting. It's fully rigged otherwise.

definitely +1 on the Tenba Cinelux 24...I have the 24 shoulder bag but might get the backpack also if it ever gets back in stock. I've used it for quick one man bands for a little over a year now. It's a little large but I love it.

Have to pack it out with dividers for other cameras that aren't as long as the Ursa though.

Otherwise I used the SKB case when bringing a bunch of equipment and need the added protection in the car.

The Sachtler Camporter bag arrived today. This is how I've got it now and what the bag looks like. It's pretty sturdy and strong, yet lightweight. The only thing is that I have to remove the handle since I want to use the compartments for the accessories and batts.

I was able to fit both the Ursa G2 and the Pocket 6K on the Satchler travel case. This makes it really convenient for my upcoming trip.

Reviving this incredibly helpful thread, as I saw quite a lot of the posters are still active on this forum and would love to hear your longtime experiences with those bags? Especially the last bag on this thread, the Sachtler camporter I'm also considering (although for Pyxis 12K)

Thanks for the input Shaheed, there seem to be a few different ones. Which model in particular to you recommend? I am not located stateside but could try to find a similar bag over here.

Since we are already on budget options - has anyone here had any experience with Chinese bags of Aliexpress? There seem to be a few that look good on paper at least, for a fraction of the price of the more established brands.

Here are some of the bags I am referencing:

I bought the Apache Case from Harbor Freight for the UMPG2 that I sold this last weekend. Was a good case that was cheaper than the Pelican equivalent, and just as good.

I just bought the Pelican 1560 for my URSA Cine 12K. Gonna get to picking the foam soon. Gonna try to match the BMD Custom Cut Foam Design best I can.

Here's the one I used for my Pocket 6k. I ended up putting my lights in it.
