Sony Venice Raw--oversharpened?

PostWed May 16, 2018 2:46 pm

I have some Sony 6K raw X-OCN ST footage.

I am running resolve 14.3 and comparing it to exports done via Sony Raw Viewer (3.0.0.01240) & Baselight---it appears slightly over-enhanced.

Anyone notice this?

I tried 4k X-OCN and that is more subtle a difference.

Is there any sample 6k venice out there to try as well?

thanks,

It appears to be the Resolve Full rez Decoding is the culprit as opposed to selecting sony Full rez decoding in the camera raw project settings. Sony decoding match other programs.

I guess my next newbie question is how to decode sony & alexa using the sony & arri decoding in the same project.

The camera raw settings are per raw file type. Just set each one the way you want it, i.e. set the Sony raw settings and then set the Arri raw settings, and import your footage. And you can change them later.

In other words, you don't have to do anything special to mix footage.

The UI makes it SEEM like you're choosing a particular flavor of raw for that project, but in reality you're just choosing a settings page for each one.

Just to add- some RAW types can be processed using libraries provided by camera maker or Resolve own one.
Some give very similar look, some may be bit different by default.
I did test with Resolve vs. Arri and they almost matched. After small tweaking I matched them basically perfectly. Resolve processing seems to be bit more sharpened by the default. Maybe Sony uses even less sharpening, so you saw visible difference.
