Timeline marker duration vs clip duration

PostTue Jun 05, 2018 1:54 pm

Beta 4 - Windows 10 / macOS High Sierra

If I have a clip that is 10 frames, then add a marker with a duration that snaps to the end of the clip, the duration of the marker and the duration of the clip will both be 10 frames. But the marker is displayed graphically on the timeline as being one frame shorter than the clip. Both timeline markers and clip markers behave like this.

I would absolutely prefer to have them both snap graphically to the same points. As it is now a marker with a duration of 1 frame is displayed as a marker without duration. Wouldn't it be better if a marker without a set duration was 0 frames long?

Issue persists in Beta 5.

Beta 6 does the same.

I don't think this is a bug. The out marker is marking the head of the last frame, inclusively. You get the same graphic display when using an "out" point on the timeline or positioning the playhead with the "end of clip" shortcut (') -- the "out" isn't on the cut, but one frame in to the left, at the head of the last frame, and which is included in any move or delete operation.

I understand what you mean and there's pros and cons for both paradigms. Having both at the same time is sure to confuse users though.
