You guys are missing one, huge, piece of information here. Does anyone see a year next to that July shipping date? I sure don't. They surely didn't mean this year guys, that's three months away. July 2014...duh! So all you belly achers can calm down about your camera being obsolete so quickly after getting it. You'll have at least another year with it before the 4k comes out...geesh!
In all seriousness, I don't understand the "BMD owes me something because I just got my camera a week ago". Did you really think BMD was spending the entire past year doing nothing while they waited for another company to fix the sensor issue? Hell no! They pushed forward, and why wouldn't they? I'm not going to have an entire R&D team sitting there doing nothing while we wait for another company to get their crap together. Of course I would try to push the limits even more. Smaller package, yup! Higher specs in the same package, yup! If you thought they would come to NAB this year without making waves, you clearly don't understand how this business works.
Enjoy the camera you have now, it's a beautiful, although quirky, tool for the job. It's the Zooey Deschanel of cameras. This release didn't make that camera any worse. You had great plans for it before, how are those plans ruined? Quit getting so wrapped up in the tools and get more wrapped up in the craft and the talent. You could be using an Alexa, but if you're pointing that Alexa at Jamie Kennedy...chances are your film is still gonna suck. (Sorry Jamie, had to make that comment after watching Heckler on Netflix). And really, the new one is $4000. If you're worth a darn, you could easily make $4000 in jobs with a BMCC to pay for the new one, then you'd have 2 awesome cameras. It's not like they pulled a RED and dropped the price of the Epic by half.
