Unresponsive after innactivity - v15 Studio

PostWed Aug 22, 2018 5:27 am

Hi,

After installing Resolve v15 Studio, certain tasks in resolve becomes unresponsive after a certain period of inactivity or after playing back in the edit page for a certain period. The duration of this period is unknown.

While I could still go between various pages like edit, colour, delivery pages and could select various clips, none of the menu items can be selected. Also the only way to quit is by pressing control+F4 (Win 10 Pro). Also it doesn't ask me if I want to save the project possibly since I have live save ON.

I have to keep quitting and re-opening after having a break or doing a preview playback.

Any suggestions why this might be happening? No one else seems to have this problem as I didn't find a post with this issue.

I didn't have this issue when I was using v14.3.1. I uninstalled v14.3.1 Studio and installed v15 Studio release version and did not update.

Are you using a PostgreSQL project server?

I noticed the same on any version of Resolve, with my disk DB. But only after computer sleep : when the latter wakes, Resolve's still there, even buttons works but don't trigger anything, nothing more... I found different workaround for that years ago :)
*MacMini M1 16 Go - Ext nvme SSDs on TB3 - 14 To HD in 2 x 4 disks USB3 towers
*Legacy MacPro 8core Xeons, 32 Go ram, 2 x gtx 980 ti, 3SSDs including RAID
*Resolve Studio everywhere, Fusion Studio too

Letting the computer sleep will stop a lot of programmes from running when it awakes. Pro Tools is another example.

Doesn't happen here if my Mac is set to 'power nap'.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Hello,

I advise you to set in Windows => system => power option => High performance
Look individual settings :
What never turns off the screen on electric sector
Which never puts the computer on standby
What never stops HDD
Which still feeds PCIe
What never stops USB power
Which still feeds CPUs at 100%
Which always maintains the state of the processor at 100%
etc ....
You have to adjust all that to OS / Level: all applications and including Davinci Resolve depend on it ...

My system power option is set to High Performance. The only exception is the monitor turns off after 15 minutes of inactivity. I have had this option for quite a few years and had no problem. It's only after installing v15 this issue happened. I will try having the screen on at all times and check if the issue is resolved. However, since it worked all these years, I suppose this could be either a bug or related to a driver?

I have both Disk DB's and postgres DB's. For more than a year or so I've been using mostly postgres as Disk DB's gave me quite a few problems with corrupted data bases when quitting unexpectedly while saving. So I don't believe this is related to databases.

Once I set the screen to always be on in the windows power settings, the unresponsiveness seem to have disappeared. The only real issue is, it was never there in the earlier versions. I did not try with 15 beta versions as I waited for the release version before I started using it on my main workstation.
