Jpeg2000 Encoding/Decoding Free Davinci

PostSun Sep 02, 2018 9:35 am

Was the jpeg2000 decoding/encoding feature unlocked in the final release of the Free Davinci Resolve?

It was marked as Studio Only during the Beta but it doesn't appear a studio only feature anymore. I'm doing some tests on jpeg2000 decoding on the free version and it seems to work but I would like to know if there's any limitation. Thanks.

I'm referring just to the jpeg2000 encoding/decoding, not DCP creation. My aim is to take a DCI-jpeg2000 image sequence and convert it to get a preview.

No one can help on this? Documentation is quite contradictory on the topic.

I can only test on the Studio version.

Sorry.

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Me too, I'm on Studio.

Maybe you could do a test and write about it here? Could be useful for others too.

Isn't it Lossless Kakadu JPEG2000 encoding that's only available in the Studio version ?

I think the OP only want's JPEG2000 in another wrapper, not DCI. He's not sure about that, but neither am I.

Well, I tested it overnight. Uninstalled the studio version and installed the free one.
Took a 90 minutes DCI jpeg 2000 sequence and exported to prores. It appears to be limited to 2K as input but it works. Still, it isn't clear why jpeg2000 decoding is marked ad a studio only version in the documentation.
I hoped someone from Blackmagic would have clarified that.

Can you do encoding? Maybe it was not so clear because you get only decoding.

BTW, you can go up to UHD, but not true 4K.

I tested it on a short (1 minute) clip and it does JPEG2000 encoding as well. I didn't have the time to check it properly but, apparently, it also packs a DCP. At this point, I guess it's just the documentation that needs to be updated.
