15.2.2 all grades disappered again

PostThu Jan 17, 2019 6:15 pm

15.2.2
w10
Dci4k timeline

this show had the graded disspear back in December after i moved it from my home suite to my studio, i had a DRP saved so was safe, and the producer screening for that day was postponed due to the director being ill

i'm finaly screening the film today, yesterday afternoon i opened up the project, checked for media offline and checked to see there were no clips ungraded, everything was good, i closed the project without any drama, went on to something else

this morning i open up the project and all grades are gone in my hero timeline, compeltely and totaly, top to tail

i restored the last DRP and am ready to playback in a few min, but this pretty weird, and now the fifth time i've had this happen since the first beta of v15

Are you keeping track of remote or local grades? If you accidentally switched from one to the other, it could look like everything had disappeared.

I just upgraded to 15.2.2 from 15.1.2 and faced a similar situation.
In my case, the graded footage looked totally off, while a few clips lost all the grades.

Opened the saved DRP file and same thing.

Reverted back to 15.1.2 and things are back to normal.

Scary!

Krishna, do you have a link to the DRP that shows this discrepancy between 15.1.2 and 15.2.2?

Ok I think I have sorted out the problem. The smart cache was the culprit.
Removed the cache files, upgraded to 15.2.2 and everything is working fine now.

Thank you Krishna,
that also sorted my issues, i changed the folder the cache was writeing to, and the grades came back

i'm sure it will be sorted soon, if it happens again before that i will change the folder caches are writeing to

if anyone with similar issues searches and finds this, i hope it's helpfull

Hi Dermot,

When you say the grades disappeared, is it only in the viewer and SDI output that you don't see graded pictures. What about the node graph, thumbnails etc. Do those show the grades, or are they default node graph (1 node)?

If you disable cache, do you see the graded pictures? You probably didn't try this, but I'd be curious.

Thanks,
Rohit

all the grades disappeard from the timeline, in the color page there was nothing on the timeline but one node at default after this event

i saved a DRP (project_v2.6_bak) straightaway - before restoreing the saved v2.6 DRP, then re-saved that as v2.7

i made a new cache folder inside the project "v2.7_cache" to keep the old / dead caches aside for housekeeping, pointed Resolve to use that folder

I then kept on working, shipped the show the next day, and deleted the caches from all folders at the OS level

yesterday i opened "v2.6_bak" and pointed it to the new cache folder, the node tree now appears on the timeline...

i enable Smart cache in my default projects, i have plently of disk space avb, and it does not hurt anything to have it running, usualy it caches things that are playable rt anyway, but with HR444 caches taking very little space and 50-60Tb of fast storage avb.. "why not" is my working theory ;-)
