DeckLink Mini Monitor 4k with BenQ SW271 via HDMI 2.0?

PostFri Nov 02, 2018 10:19 pm

Hi,

I need a grading monitor.
Can anyone confirm that this combo works?
DeckLink Mini Monitor 4k with BenQ SW271 via HDMI 2.0

I could not find out if this combo supports 10bit.
HDMI 2.0 should theoretically support it.

Thanks!
Philipp

Thank you, Misha!
One more thing: I am currently editing 4k footage (optimized to half) in a 1920x1080 timeline. The monitor is a 4k monitor, will it be able to display the image at FullHD without scaling issues? Practically speaking, will it be okay to judge sharpening corrections on?

Hi Misha,
The 4K DCI 25p limited to SDI Only, is it a limitation of the HDMI 2.0a, or is it a limitation of the DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K? Will there be the same limitation on the HDMI output of the DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G?

Decklink 4k extreme 12 G https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/decklink/techspecs/W-DLK-25

Same limitation, mini 4k can do 30 fps over HDMI in UHD and extreme 12G can do 60 fps over HDMI in UHD.

Most movies are shot at 24 fps (the film look that makes you tired).

Thanks, Misha.
Anyhow, the BenQ SW271 max resolution is 3840 x 2160, which is below DCI 4K (4096 × 2160). Also, according to Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI), 4K distributions must have a frame rate of 24 FPS.

24 fps is also the only frame rate allowed for DCI 4K distribution (to be projected).
While some people consider 24 fps to be 'tiring', others consider it as having more 'cinematic look'. Possibly it's true that 'beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder'.
