ultrastudio4k Capture codec to small files

PostSun Feb 03, 2019 10:16 pm

I try to capture video
I set Media Express " Capture file format to QT apple ProRes422
But it needs about 40MB per second
So 30 min video is a huge video file
Is there any way that I can change Bitrate or whatever to have a small video file?
something like 20GB for each 30 min?
What if I need to have H264 file? Is there any option to capture them to this?

Use OBS studio or Vmix for recording. Media Express only records uncompressed codecs. ;)

Not true, ProRes is a compressed codec. Depending on the final output needed, you may give ProRes LT a try.

Directly capturing into H.264 is too demanding and anyway, it would make editing less smooth.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

@Xtreemtec
I was referring to the OP, who obviously has a Mac if he mentioned ProRes…

I'm not sure how he got to the point of recording ProRes. Because media express as far as i know.. (dont use it too much.. Only to test Decklink cards if needed) does not support any compressed form of codec. Only uncompressed as can be seen from the screenshot. ;)

But he has more options with OBS or Vmix so guess he can do what he needed now.

Media Express uses codecs installed on the system and so is OS dependent. On Mac, if you have "Pro Video Formats" installed, you will have ProRes available.

I can only hope he has fewer problems in DR than others are reporting here for OBS.
