Just put together a very quick hood for my BMCC this morning. I just used Black poster board. I've owned the Hoodman H700P for years for one of my old Panasonic field monitors. It fits like a glove on the BMCC. The only problem for me are my eyes. Hate getting old. I can't focus 5"s away. I need dioptics which is why I use the Z-Finder from Zucuto for my DSLR's. I've looked into several other possibilities for view finders, but haven't been able to find the one that will work for me. One of them looks great! It's made in Brazil and it have a 3x magnification but! It attaches with Magnets! Yikes. The kiss of death for electronics. The other one by MunzMachines.com looks like the perfect solution, but I haven't been able to determine if it has magnification or dioptics. For that reason, I just made my own for now. All I used as Black Poster Board. I cut it out 6 5/8's for the top and 4" for the sides. I scored it instead of cutting all the way through so it would fold without tape. Now the interesting part. How long to make it? I have computer glasses that were designed just for me for 15"s so that's how long I made it. The best way to each of you will be determined by your eyes focal length, in other words, how close can you read?. I then added two foldable strips at the end to block out additional light from the rear. Here are some of the photos if this helps.
warmly,
