Fantastic work from BMD on the latest DaVinci Resolve 16 release. Many, many thanks.
Nonetheless, here's my (now much reduced!) wish list of features that haven't yet made the cut.
Fingers crossed for Resolve 17... or sooner.
[Copied from the Resolve 15 Big feature request list][WISH] Please add 'Multichannel' to the 'Monitor Set Format' options. Right now we have no way to feed more than 2 channels of 'non-surround' audio to downstream hardware eg A1(L1), A2(R1), A3(L2), A4(R2) etc. Selecting 'Multichannel' could reveal/enable an "Audio Channels" drop down menu so that the user can select the number of channels required, and below, be able to map those Stem <> Outputs as needed.
[Copied from the Resolve 16 Big feature request list][WISH][MEDIA PAGE] Add Mute and Solo controls to the Meters panel. Currently all Audio Channels are summed to Mono and can only be disabled/enabled/switched via the modal Clip Attributes window > Audio tab. This makes the process slow and unwieldy, interrupting flow.
[WISH][EDIT PAGE] A keyboard modifier function to toggle trim behaviour in currently selected mode ie to ‘ripple edit’ whilst in Selection Mode and ‘resize edit’ whilst in Trim Mode.
[WISH][EDIT PAGE] Ability to select clips in the Timeline via selection in the Edit Index.
[WISH][EDIT PAGE] In the Viewer panel, when displaying Audio, allow the user to mark an in/out range by ‘click and dragging’ directly in the ‘zoomed’ waveform display area in the Viewer window.
[WISH][EDIT PAGE] In the Viewer panel, when displaying Audio, allow to move/scroll the ‘zoomed’ waveform display area by dragging within that area (like using a ‘hand’ tool)
[WISH][MEDIA POOL] A consolidated clip view whereby selecting a folder in the ‘Bin List’ (at left) will show (at right) all clips contained in that bin and any sub bins at any level. Note: In this view we would see ‘Clips Only’ at right, not folders/subbins.
[WISH][MEDIA POOL] Default ‘Filter by’ selection should be ‘
All Fields' (not File Name).
[WISH][MEDIA POOL] Default Smart Bin rule should be MediaPool Properties ‘
All Fields’ (not File Name).
[WISH]][MEDIA POOL] Fewer restrictions on the (display) names for Bins. Currently only a limited alphanumeric character set is allowed for bin naming. Eg Among others, no colon (“:”) characters are allowed (which prevents me from including normally formatted timecode values in bin names).
[WISH][EDIT PAGE] Allow user mappable keyboard shortcuts for switching Timeline View Options (also Video View Options and Audio View Options).
[WISH][EDIT PAGE] In the Timeline panel, when using Stacked Timelines, allow users to ‘hide’ and ‘show’ timelines by a simple double click in the title bar area.
[WISH][EDIT PAGE] Show Timeline ‘Marker Names’ within the Edit Index ‘Name’ field … at present it is listed in the Notes field.
[WISH][EDIT PAGE] Duplicate clip usage range indicators in timeline
[WISH][EDIT PAGE] Extended clip usage data in bins. Currently we can see that a clip has been used ‘x’ number of times (list view) but there is no indication of where those clip usage instances occur, nor any means to quickly navigate to those instances. Making this info available/navigable via context menu, Clip Attributes or the Metadata would be very useful.
[WISH] Add a ‘Deflicker’ option for dealing with ‘field flicker/twitter’ issues. ResolveFX Revival “Deflicker” OFX is unable to detect and address these issues.
[WISH][EDIT MENU] Rename the ‘Duplicate Clip’ menu option to 'Duplicate' (because the function is not limited to Clips).
[WISH][DELIVER PAGE] Ability to define and apply Data Burn In options in the Deliver Page independently of the Project settings. Currently it’s limited to Project or None.
[WISH][DELIVER PAGE] Ability to Enable / Disable timeline tracks for output directly in the Deliver Page.
[And finally, there's a super annoying subtitle formatting bug that still lingering][
BUG][EDIT PAGE] The
Track Style >
Line Spacing control in the Inspector panel for Subtitle Tracks just doesn't work at all, or doesn't work consistent to expectations, depending on font selection and / or platform. (Tested on Mac OS X and Windows 10.)
Cheers all, thanks for listening.
Andy
Let's have a return to the glory days, when press releases for new versions included text like "...with over 300 new features and improvements that professional editors and colorists have asked for."
