I respectfully disagree, but all I'm really asking for is if somebody from BMD (or anybody) could guide me on what to do now? Is there a way to reset all preferences? Do I uninstall and reinstall? I'm worried about my license key not being deactivated if I just uninstall.

Here is what happens....You license is good for 2 installations. If you install a third one, it deactivates the first two. You can then go back and reactivate it on one of those machines. If you activate it again on a third system, the other two deactivate and so on, and so on. I use three machines and just keep my activation key handy to copy and paste on each machine. Its no big deal.

FYI, to anybody who might be having similar issues...

- I uninstalled 16.
- Reinstalled 16
- It still would not get past the splash screen.
- I uninstalled 16
- I installed 15.3
- It works again.

Thanks to those who offered advice and for the licensing information above. I think I'm going to stay on 15 until the "official" release of 16. The new features are cool, but at least now I can get some work done.

Similar problem with Fusion titles (e.g. Lower 3rd Simple Box 2 Line). All my projects were imported successfully to DR16 beta but all my imported Fusion titles just show the "Media Offline" graphic when in the Edit & Cut pages. The inspector show all the imported title properties OK (i.e. text, font etc.) and the titles render OK on the Fusion page. But they're not showing up in the Edit or Cut pages as per screenshot below.

Update: I experimented with copying and pasting just one broken title adjacent to the broken one. The pasted version worked fine and somehow woke up all the others in the timeline too! So it's all good again now. Very odd!

The wake up call (media offline), or green frames in the timeline are prior bugs that BMD have always fixed just prior to the end of a beta period, and I'm really excited to try V16 and the new Cut page, but I just can't chance it while I'm doing paid work. Please hurry!

Resolve Studio 16 Beta problem (Windows): The new Clip View on the new Cut Page isn't working properly. Clip View shows the entire clip and some metadata which is great, but hovering the mouse pointer over the clip doesn't show the clip in the viewer, although Source Clip is selected there. Double clicking brings up the clip in the viewer but still, it shows the first frame only, hovering the mouse over the Clip View has no effect on what's shown in the viewer.

You can grab the appropriate log archive and post a link in this forum -
see the "Submitting diagnostics logs" section here for getting the archive, and posting additional information (hardware, step by step description of scenario) and depending on your issue, other useful contextual information like system info and exported project files.

You can also use the inbuilt crash reporter that you can enable here. In case of a crash, you can enter the description in the dialog that appears, and it will upload a copy of the log archive for analysis.

I'm able to run the program using OpenCL, but I can't playback more than a few seconds of my timeline and I get the "GPU is full" error. I never had this error once on 15.x.

Is there a specific version of Nvidia driver I should be using? This is dated 9/5/18. I could get the latest from their website but I was under the impression performance was actually worse with the latest Nvidia drivers.

I am getting the same error and stayed up for hours trying to figure it out. I turned off the extra GPU acceleration they added and the moment I went to do particles in a 4k video I got the dreaded "GPU is Full" error.. I am thinking of going back to 15 until they figure this out. I do not have time to troubleshoot. I need to be learning this software. :)

Hello.

I hope the PROGRAMMERS will see this post.

I switched from 16 back to 15. I'll let the link on my post WHY i did that a bit later. The context first.
- Part one viewtopic.php?f=21&t=77981#p496063
- and right there part two viewtopic.php?f=21&t=77981#p496071

Here's my post WHY i switched back viewtopic.php?f=21&t=77981&start=50

I use DR for ColorGrading and as NLE. And even though i have NVIDIA GeForce GTX1080Ti GPU, i'm really afraid that tilt to Fusion will not allow me to use any other version than DR15 (if it goes that way). Maybe not 15, maybe 16 - it's just a matter of time. And at the moment it is not workable as NLE at some points (this is my experience) and it doesn't fit professional standarts (if there are some:). If we'd speak about a car that wouldn't stop smooth anyone would agree it's not a professional approach at least (i think). Espesially if in the manual it'd be declared "smooth brake". And here's what i thought: what if you provide two versions of DR
1) The one WITH Fusion
2) The one WITHOUT Fusion.
Thus it'd become possible to improve them separatelly. Notice, i don't speak about making Fusion standalone (as it used to be). Yes, for those who need it it's convenient to have it in the package. But what about those who don't want it BY ANY MEANS? So i'm talking about two packages.

I understand that there will be a problem to switch from one to the other. But
1) you can make convertors (which in some you do anyway)
2) those, who really need Fusion can continue struggling since they want Fusion. But those, who don't need it that much would prefer to use just what they need.
And i don't know where will be the majority. Obviosly it'll depend upon how usable will be that or that particular version WITH Fusion. But at least we'd have the one without Fu but workable and upgratable - and no problem.

It looks everybody will be happy. At least as i see it.

Thank you.

Hello Everyone, Any ideas on why upon launch DR16 it opens the project manager and when I open a project it crashes and shuts down? By the way I had not backed up my databases from free version DR15.3 unfortunately, so when I tried to downgrade back to 15.3 from DR16 I coundn't access my projects anymore.. I know it's a dumb thing not to do but the fact it's I didn't, and now I can't get to the project I was working on. Any tips would be much appreciated. Since I can't get to the old project, I decided to have a second go at DR16. As I said before I can see my projects on the project manager in DR16 but when I try to open one it crashes...Thanks in advance..

Updated my GPU driver also. Fixed a few problems. Only 2 remain. GPU memory full error code. I've had this before and it went away as v.15 betas were released. Other problem, sometimes I can't switch from one page to another. Everything else works fine. I can even save, make adjustments on the page I'm on, etc. I just can't switch to another page. Nothing happens. Restart fixes it. Still....

I confirmed the long thumbnail,source/preview window load times is exclusive to Amd Vegas 56 card when using Resolve 16.

I uninstalled Resolve 16 and loaded Resolve 15 which corrected the load times.

On my XP5 15 laptop(gtx 1050ti) I loaded Resolve 16 and it ran normally. No long time times.

Hopefully they fix the load time issue with AMD cards soon.

I also they offer the jog wheel separately and I dont need another keyboard but I'd love a nice heavy metal jog wheel with in/out and source/preview buttons.

Agree with Vladimir. An option in the preferences to have Fusion not load would seem helpful and not impact having it whenever it was desired.

The database for Davinci Resolve 16 is not backward compatible with previous versions. This is how it has been with all major version upgrades of Resolve in the past. The databases are usually not backward compatible as the structure of the database is upgraded.

The answer to his question is NO. If he started the project in Resolve 16, you can't resume editing it in Resolve 15.

That video just tells you how to install both versions side by side, which is an unrelated matter.

As for video, i agree. If we talk about a particular case (when it's done the way it is done). But i'd like others to know, how it is possible to do in correct way.
But there was not video only in my reply. First i provided the link, that might be the way out. And if it happened to me i'd definitely try it.

First time on the forum and need some help. Let me start by saying I'm a 65 year old guy who is technically challenged. I was using DV15 just for my personal enjoyment for editing my drone images. When I downloaded 16 everything looked fine until I would try and open a project. As soon as it opened the window would close and I would get the "report error" box. This would happen every time so I uninstalled 16 and downloaded 15 again and now I get this. Any help would be appreciated.

Since you are using a Windows 10, check to see if you have restore points enabled in Windows. If so Windows should have made a restore point prior to installing Resolve 16. If you decide to restore, I advise to make a full backup of everything first.

When you installed 16, it upgraded your database, so you cannot use it when you uninstall 16 and reinstall 15. You should always backup your Resolve database before upgrading Resolve. If you didn't, you are probably out of luck. You will have to create a new database and start over again. Your Resolve 16 problem might have been a video driver issue. Can you list your specs of your system, OS, Processor, Video Card, amount of memory, etc.

For me DR 16 repeatedly hangs doing Quick Export. I have an 8-minute timeline with varied media, and it usually hangs about 75% of the way through the render. I have left it hanging as long as half an hour to make sure it's not just contemplating a difficult codec. I have tried both H264 and ProRes quick renders.

Little glitch I found.
I use a Macbook pro 2018 laptop with an RX 580 EGPU. When the EGPU is plugged in i don't get any scopes unless i uncheck "Use GPU Scopes". When the EGPU is not plugged in everything works fine.

I tried all the combinations of Auto, Metal, Open CL etc and can't get any GPU powered scopes with the Egpu.

Resolve 16 so far running very well on my machine and the cut view is really great, but I have a few very minor issues:
1) Database import of my backup was fine, but when I opened a project, all of my Text+ clips were shown in a "Media Offline" state. I could select them and edit them in the inspector, they just wouldn't display in the viewer. The workaround I found was to select one, copy it, move the play head to the beginning of that text+ clip, and then paste it back on top of itself (replacing the copy on the timeline with the clipboard copy). Then the text reappeared in the viewer. I had to do this for every Text+ object in the timeline. No big deal for me since the project was small. Saving the project, closing it, and then re-opening it worked correctly and I only had to do the copy/past thing on every text+ object one time per project.

2) If I leave the windows taskbar displayed, the ribbon at the bottom with the various view selectors winds up on top of some of the controls, at least on the color view and there's no v-scroll to adjust the view. However, if I hide the windows taskbar, all views display properly.

Item 2 Update 4/18/2019: I learned that, under the workspace menu, I can turn off the navigation bar. When I do that, the views all work properly with the windows 10 task bar. However, if I turn the navigation bar back on, I have to switch windows task bar back to hide because the navigation bar will cover the controls on the bottom of the view.

3) I am getting a static noise in my monitor speaker every time I adjust any control. I just built my system last week, and did a clean install of windows and all drivers are up to date. Each increment of every control makes a low, but audible static sound. It's more of a minor annoyance than a real problem.

Item 3 Update 4/18/2019: This problem turned out to be ground loop noise in my audio channels on my PC likely from increased power usage by the GPU from Resolve 16's increased usage of the graphics card. The noise problem was solved by installing an audio isolator.

4) Just about every Fairlight effect that I've tried cuts off the bottom portion of the view when I pop it out into its own window, leaving many controls near the bottom of the window inaccessible. The window sizes are not adjustable and there are no vscroll bars to move the view to bring the obstructed controls into view. However, the copy of the effect in the inspector is fine, so I can make the adjustments there and see the result in the effect's window.

5) Fairlight Equalizer has an issue where if I put the #1 adjustment circle exactly on the center line, the eq acts as if I turned it off. If I Move it even the slightest amount off the center line, the eq curve is applied correctly. I did not notice this behavior when moving the #2, #3, and #4 adjustment circles.

So far, version 16 seems to be working very well for me. I have not had any of the GPU memory full issues reported by other users. I will update this post if I run into any more bugs.

I could be wrong, but from your description that sounds like a ground loop. To prove that try moving a window around the screen when nothing else is making any sound through your speakers.
Typically, this is the large currents being used by the graphics card creating noise on the audio ground.

You may be on to something there. It sounds exactly like a a ground loop, but the only time there's noise is when I adjust a control. I tried your idea and moved windows around, but there was no static. On the other hand, if I adjust the contrast control in the color view, or the gain color wheel, or any other control, only then do I hear the static. I did find, however, in the timeline view, that if I move the playhead to a new spot on the timeline by just left clicking in the playhead area, I do get an extended amount of static. Instead of getting a very short click-like burst per increment, I get a static buzz for several seconds. If I turn the monitor volume to zero, I don't hear it, so it's definitely static in the audio stream. I think you might be right, I might have a ground loop issue. Even though moving the window didn't produce any static, that may not stress the GPU enough for the current to increase significantly and maybe adjusting controls in Resolve stresses the GPU enough to make it audible. I'll look into that. Thanks!

I've seen ground loops show noise from hard drives before too.

Can you explain what your audio hardware path is? Are you using an external audio interface, internal interface or just motherboard audio?

In my current setup I initially had a ground loop, but was able to eliminate it by running balanced cables from my Presonus Studio 192 interface to my powered monitor speakers.

Motherboard audio. I have 2 el-cheapo 32" TV's that I got for free with our new beds that I'm using as monitors and they only support 720P over hdmi, but they have a VGA input and an audio input, so I'm using display port to VGA adapters to run the monitors, and then the motherboard audio to pipe sound to one of the monitors. I had Resolve 15 running with no issues. The static didn't start until I loaded Resolve 16. However, I suspect you're right.

Motherboard audio is notorious for showing any noise in a system. In the past I've even had to resort to adding power supply filtering to the onboard audio chip.

You could try an audio ground loop isolator, but I don't hold high hopes for it to cure your problem.

Dear All,

I am new in the forum and I hope you will forgive me if I am not using the correct 3d.

I recently upgraded from Davinci Resolve 15.3 to 16 Beta and I think I was not that intelligent to backup my Sound Library PostgreSQL before to do so.
In few words my Sound library, that it's stored in a secondary drive, disappeared from Fairlight page. I tied to add again the library but the it says that "no data found".
Any of you have a clue on how to bring back the library?
P.S. I am on PC
Thank you in advance, regards

Hi,

Here are some consistency problems I have with the beta:

- Make Zoom shortcuts persistent over the different pages. At the moment in the Edit/Color page it is cmd + mouse wheel while in Fusion it is ctrl + mouse wheel. That makes no sense.

- Edit Page has a blade icon to cut, while Fairlight has a scissor. (why?) (in cut page it has yet again a another name (cut) and icon, so three different icons and three different names for the same tool!

- In Fusion some (if not all the new) effects do not show up in the effect library, while they do in the shift space search bar. Also, why not also integrate a search function in the effect library as it is the case in the Edit and Color page.

- Fusion, please bring back the picon-images for the effects that used to be in Fusion standalone 9, makes it so much easier for a new user to get to know what the effects do

- Edit, please bring back the contextual duplicate timeline function (right-click on a timeline clip in the media pool, timeline - duplicate timeline (plenty of space there and it will not confuse anybody).

- color page, please bring the fabulous spline editor from Fusion to the color page. The color page keyframes need some real love. You can not do any splines, as you can do in the Edit or Fusion page, and this is again inconsistent.

- Edit Page, Text tool, do we still need both? Maybe make the old text tool only available in the options by checking, "enable legacy text tool"

- As a personal opinion, I would not activate the Cut page on default while this page is still in such an early stage. Curious users could still activate it in the workspace - show page menu.

- The Cut page could fill up an entire forum topic, but I think Bins should also be consistent as it is in the Edit Page. At the moment it does actually slow us down if we do want to use a Bin workflow in the Cut page.

- the elastic wave function does not show the keyframes for me.

v16 is a good build, great work as always, but it could use some more consistency.

Remap this to a custom keybinding - brings the desired consistency.

This is a little odd. Then again, I never touch the Toolbar, as keybindings are used exclusively.

- the elastic wave function does not show the keyframes for me.
On macOS, Command + click over the Clip to place Bend Points at the location of the mouse pointer.

Hold the Command key over a Bend Point to display an arrow cursor, and drag the mouse left or right to nudge the contents of the Clip under the Bend Point.

I have just encountered a strange bug: waveforms disappeared on the Color page. I mean, the scopes panel is there, but it is empty. When opening scopes in Edit window, waveform shows up.

This weird thing happens on my Trashcan Mac Pro, but installation on MacBook Pro 2017 is fine.

- Fairlight: copy and paste attributes to other clips - using FX Reverb2 - quit the program.
- Put Reverb2 to off silence all the ttacks. Only work when is deleted completely.
- I cannot find the 1000 Sounds library added ( I made this before, sorry)
- EDIT page timeline and Fairlight is not very intuitive in some sizes. Sometimes you have to do too much zoom for tool appear in the clip borders.
- .XML export not connect all the clips in other Resolve in other computer with same files.
- Delivery: sometimes make the marker in and out not work. Even play. Smetimes yes.
- Color works perfect ;)

(Opinion)
- CUT: Media Managment should include export the project file in easy way for open the project in other computer with all the files linked. Even if you are not a Pro - like CUT was created - and deliver a project for a colorist, for example. Database way is complex for huge projects.
- Quick Export should have size options. Full HD is the only one for h264.
- FUSION preview nodes (basic) - names are difficult to recognize.
- (Minor) Some functions should be an option in the project settings or properties to maintaine clean the interface. Too much information.

Thank you! :D

I just figured it out. There is a new checkbox in Preferences: "Use GPU Scopes" selected by default. Whatever it means, Parade panel had populated as soon as I unselected the checkbox.

Using 29.97 sequence within a 23.98 project... playback is stuttering and the monitoring is constantly flipping between 23.98 and 59.94i - especially on some transitions (push).

True, and I apologize for this. I wish Blackmagic would have a Bug tracker like Github and co to see if a bug or feature request is acknowledged. Here in the forum, one does not know if our input just vanished into the void, unread by the developers.

Note: I do know that it's there for safety. I've been into electronics for 40 years. You're only touching your computer through your keyboard and mouse (isolated from mains) and the motherboard and all internal components run off stepped-down current so the chances of any high current shorts are extremely low.

You could at least temporarily disconnect the ground plug for a test if you don't want to do it permanently

My case is designed with a fold down side panel to which the motherboard is attached. While that makes it easy to access the motherboard, the panel isn't hinged in an electrically conductive way nor is it properly bonded to the rest of the case. Consequently, the motherboard bonding screws are, in essence, bonding the motherboard to a floating metal panel, and since the power supply is bonded to the case proper, that's a potential source of ground noise. I intend to bond the mobo panel to the case with a dedicated bonding conductor to see if that helps reduce or eliminate the noise. I also have an old ungrounded outlet adapter that I can use to do what you're suggesting. Lastly, I have an audio ground isolator coming that should be delivered this weekend. Hopefully, one of those will resolve the issue, otherwise, I'll just continue to troubleshoot it. Thanks for the info!
