Will the m/42 mount lenses work with BMCC

PostMon Jan 28, 2013 3:02 pm

I have several M/42 mount lenses. Is there a way I can use them with the BMCC EF ?

sure you can , its simple all you need is to buy an adapter from m42 to eos mount - just take into consideration you will lose all your aperture control and IS , it will be completely manual but there are cheap adapters for that around 30$

Technically, yes. However all of my M42 lenses don't reach infinity on the BMCC, using the same adapters as on my 5D III :?

Same here, but may be an adapter problem like with the Tokina.

I was wondering this. Im testing out the EF mount this weekend while I wait for the MFT mount. I have a Helios with the cinemorph filter I wanted to test out. I cant reach infinity on my Nikon cameras but ti thought for sure I would be able to on EF. Has anyone tried mounting a helios on the BMCC?

It works. I used only m42 Sigma / takumar & some russian glass on my tests. no problems with infinity on mines. maybe the adaptor is ok.

I'd like to know, too. I must have tried 5 or 6 so far - no luck with infinity focus.

I wonder if it is a matter of small tolerances that can be easily fixed by a machinist (on the adapter, of course).

Question, guys:

Do m42 lenses cover the whole area of the black magics EF sensor, or does it vignette?

They do easily cover the whole sensor as they were designed for something we nowadays call Full Frame, so they will even cover the BMPC 4K-sensor as well as any (other) APS-C-sized sensor as well.

Just don't buy the cheapest ones out there, you have to be especially careful with old zoom-lenses (there are good ones amongst them though). But buying good old primes like Pentax, Zeiss (some affordable one with C/Y-mount), certain Tokina e.g. you'll be alright. I have a Canon FD 50/1.4 and a Minolta MD Rokkor 50/1.4 adopted with an EF-mount and like them a lot.

I've preordered a BMCC with MFT mount since I have a Panasonic GH1 with a bunch of adapters and lenses and I thought that not many lenses could be adapted to Canon. But this thread made me look up what adapters there are to the EOS mount and there seem to be adapters for all my lenses (Nikon, M42, Pentax, Olympus). So is there any point in me waiting for the BMCC MFT instead of just getting the EOS version?
