Formatting Question

PostTue May 07, 2013 11:46 am

Hey all,

It seems I can't find a clear cut answer to this question thus far.

I have my SSD arriving in the mail any day now. When I go to format the card on my Mac, do I have to purchase a dock to do so, or can I do this with the BMCC connected to my computer via the USB port? I'll have the SSD in the BMCC slot of course.

Thanks!

As of now the BMC does neither format the SSD nor delete clips,so you have to do it via a dock or slot on your computer.

There are cheaper options than docks. There are sata to usb cables like this one: http://amzn.to/YAzryy

They also have the benifit of being bus powered so you don't need to use a power connection. Great on location.

yes, do not get a USB2. Footage transfers will take forever!!

Also, to be clear, USB3 is NOT bus powered. To get USB3 speeds, you need external power. A USB3 adapter will work on a regular USB plug, but only as a USB2 connection. (slow)

I got this one and I love it: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thermaltake-Doc ... omputers_4

I have been using that one for my cards for six months since I got the Shuttle II. Works fine for me.

Hey metaljesus, I decided to go with the Anker card reader. I assume you've had some good experience with it?
