ATEM Television's AES/EBU Format Type

PostTue May 14, 2013 2:40 am

I've been researching the ATEM line for a while now, and I'm still puzzled by the fact that the digital audio in of the ATEM. It's simply labeled as "AES/EBU", but there are sever formats that match that description. Is it AES3, or one of the others? The forums I've read call it a multi-channel input. But does that include your standard 2 channel stereo? This is what I need to find out before my church buys this.

So what this all boils down to is, how many channels does the AES/EBU support?

The AES/EBU format is generally 48kHz stereo on the TV-Studio. The AES/EBU input cannot be used to feed more than 2 channels of audio.

Thanks a lot, it's good to finally have an answer. I guess we can't go with that option, without getting an external mixer.

Remember to get a mixer or a analog/digital converter with a delay function if you use unsynced cameras, beacuse before you feed audio into the ATEM you should delay the audio by one frame to maintain perfect lipsync.

The Behringer DEQ2496 is a perfect unit for that purpose.

Is there the possiblity to enable/disable audio from various cameras?

Because i was thinking about this solution:

Analog audio mixer----> one of my cameras mic input------->atem tvs via hdmi cable-------> intensity shuttle usb 3.0---------> streaming via livestream procaster

I just realized something, can the ATEM series take in USB bus audio? A lot of digital mixers can send out this way now, and I'm curious if that wouldn't be an easy alternative.

I should have clarified myself, sorry about that. I meant Audio going into the computer, via the USB. But I think I just came up with my own answer, since the the Ethernet connection is only for control. And wouldn't send the audio through, even if the computer had it available.
