Davinci Resolve asking me for Activation key??

WTH BLackmagic, I don't have the activation key , I bought this product a while back why is this program asking for an activation key out of the blue and where do I get it???.. I'm logged in into my account...help me please.....what is this???

If you have a dongle or an activation key you can use the Studio version, otherwise you need the free version. Both are available from the BMD support web site.

Could it be you are using the version from Apple's store?
Otherwise, if you bought it you'd have a dongle or a serial. The App Store version 15 will only be available as a final, Apple doesn't allow any beta. Practice 15 with the free version, if you want to.

This has just happened to me. I received Resolve when I purchased the URSA Mini Pro. Have been using Resolve since January of 2018. Yesterday I was grading, today it's asking me to activate my license?! I'm traveling and working on a film, why is it asking me for my license again? I have my activation code, but it's at my house across the country and I won't be home for quite some time.

Just happened to me with latest version of 15. I've been using Resolve Studio for weeks and nothing changed on my PC, yet it suddenly asked. After verifying, it said I had just used my second activation! Next startup, it asks again, but then OKs and says I have another machine left? Glad I still had the card handy where I could find it. I hope 16 will be less flaky.
EDIT: Continues to ask me for the code. I may give uninstalling and reinstalling + 16 beta a try.

What the heck? This suddenly happened to me too. I bought the App Store version of Studio. I've been using it just fine until yesterday. Today I start up Resolve and it suddenly is asking me for an activation code. What gives?

I bought the Studio version and have an activation error every time i launch Resolve. Free version works fine. I'm on Ubuntu 19.04. Same problem with versions 15 and 16.

Hi, im afraid this is not helpful, please power down and restart Resolve, then when its asking for the activation key, enter the key and if it then does not connect generate a log using Resolves tool.

Hi. For the only purpose to test the activation key i installed Resolve for windows in Wine. I knowed it will not work for editing, but the activation process worked. The server erased older activations and accepted the serial number. I then desinstalled Resolve and installed it on Linux. ¡And the activation process worked!. My system is Ubuntu Budgie 19.04 on a Ryzen 7 2700 and a Vega 56 card using the RCOm drivers.

Seems like your problem was that your licenses had all been "activated".

I've come across similar issues on Linux (Elementary OS - an Ubuntu 18.04 derivative) where it will ask for a serial number after a hardware/software tweak and is unable to "clear" existing activations. I have to revert back to windows and clear activations then switch back to Linux. Painful I know.

I had the same issue. I am running OSX 10.12.6 on my MBP retina mid 2012. Last weeks on two different times the software asked for the license key. However, I hadn't changed anything to my system. I was able to get it working again with the key, but now I have lost two activation possibilities for no reason. Does anyone know what to do? How do I get those activation possibilities back?

You can always use them again, the oldest install will then stop working.

This seems to still be an issue. I just had mine ask for my activation key again out of the blue. I haven't changed anything or installed on other devices. No one else had access to my key. Not sure what's going on. This is the second time this has happened to me.

I put in my key again and it's working, but weird that it keeps happening.

My key that I got with the camera stoped working in Davinci version 16.2.1. I need to give my projects away immediately and I can't open them. Need your help!!!!

I have been using the Studio Version for months with zero problem, but out of the blue it start to asking me the serial key, it is possible that someone else is using the same key as I?

My Davinci also crashed a few times with this error "Your GPU memory is full", this could be related?

If you didn't get your key from an authorised dealer or if someone had a chance to copy your key, it's possible.

Memory full is normally triggered by using complex effects or large videos, but Nvidias can have their own problems.

The key came with the BMPC 4k, but my friend bought it used from another co-worker colleague, I don't believe he is using since he bought the BMPC 6k which also came with a key. Also he is a Adobe guy.

I'm pretty sure it has some relation with one of this two things, maybe the hardware change...
I will test some hardware changes and ask to the seller too... Let's see. =)

If you lose the keys to your car, the dealer will charge upward of $300 to replace them. Just my 2c FWIW.

Yes - periodically Davinci Studio asks me on both of my machines... I have the card handy and just reenter it. I don't see this as a problem, for all we might guess BM is tweaking its security/activation system. I can't speak to the dongle issue as I have never had one.

I would say it may have shown the need for the *reactivation* some time in the 17 beta series.

NOW, what I would say is a bug, is the GPU Mem Full, which is a major pain in the A$$. I said in a previous post somewhere I found a solution with marking preferences of GPU card... Since 17.1 a 2080Ti replaced a 2080 Super, and the 17.1.1 it has gotten progressively worse. This has increased my yelling and screaming at the screen in frustration, but not at BM or DRS.

More recently a simple restart of Davinci doesn't quick fix, now it requires a cold restart, yes cold, not a warm boot. Sorry for the hijack.
