The Why. Thread

PostMon May 20, 2013 9:11 pm

Why.. you sell a cinema camera with only "30p" ? seriously. Ok we can say, that was the first version of your product, but now, when the upscaled version of the BMCC released, it still have crappy.. 30p - lol - sorry but:

for what the hell i need 4K resolution today (in crappy max. 30p of course), with less dynamic range and less sensor sensibility too.

why you release this sort of product, WHY you don't try to solve the 50p over-heating problem - the very last step for a reasonable cinema camera.. why you release something with no sense for the most of the filmmaker instead.

and why the hell you dont communicate with the users in your own forums? are Apple your inspiring example? ok Apple doesnt make empty promises to they community. can we bet that the BMPC have release problems too?

Why ... do you post the 84758th iteration of the same "I want more FPS" question?

Henry ford was quoted as saying, "You can have any color you want, as long as it's black". Meaning, BMC makes the product, you either like it and buy it, or buy something else. Sure they may have some tweaks that the hardware software will allow, but I wouldn't hold my breath on demanding a feature that is not part of the primary release. Buy another camera that offers it and you will be a much happier person.

Would higher frame rates be nice? Absolutely. However, like a lot of other people waiting for this camera, I don't find the lack of higher frame rates to be a deal breaker. It sounds like you do, which is completely understandable. If you don't want or need the camera, don't buy it.

The HFR feature is a much more important function for a true "Cinema Camera" than this unnecessary 4K. For what do you need 4K? Blackmagic say "for TV/Ad Productions" - lol - 4K ? 30p ? for Ads? Or 4K Broadcast? haha. In which year we live?

Global shutter is nice, but i sacrifice DR and sensiblity for something that isn't so important when you film on the right way and not in 200mm zoom panning or poor hand-help shots.

The BMCC went the right way, but now i see a poor progress.

Sony has a camera for you, just hand over the big bag of money. No need to kick the horse before it's born. The only valid gripes would be will the delivery date be met, and will audio meters and the audio functionality as reviewed by juicelink be addressed. Those are important and realistic goals.

the community have to show blackmagic what they realy want. nobody have me to say that there is a reasonably need for 4K p30 - maybe for some very few application. 2K 50p can converted to any broadcast format or easy upscaled in the future or slowmod for musicvideo/ad productions. 4K is ---- sorry.

community? there is no community! you dont speak for the community that doesn' exist. We voted not to commutize, we are an autonomous collective, we use coconuts for horses and our favorite color is blue, i mean green.

If you look at their approach, they say, "We want to sell a camera for $3K or $4K, what feature can we pack in there and keep it at that price range?" That's their approach. They've said that many times. Sure, BMD could do 1000fps if they wanted to, but it would cost more. I wouldn't complain unless you're willing to pay for it. If you are willing to pay for it, then wait until BMD comes out with a camera with that spec and then buy it or go buy something else that's available right now. They prioritized 24p and threw in 30p. I'd say that was a wise choice. I shoot at 24fps much more frequently than 240fps, etc.

The next logical step (so it seems) is for BMD is to release a camera that does higher FPS. Maybe next year at NAB. Maybe not. But that is their plan - to pack as many features as possible into a certain price point.

It's true, you can never make everyone happy. You give them features previously only available at $20,000 or MUCH more, and they're still not satisfied.

Funny thread. I also would love to have HFR, but even with 30p, 4K, Global Shutter it would be the great camera for the price. Global shuttter is my dream and I'm OK for little bit less DR (which is still very good).

Most wish as of now is to have it really shipping July, or August, or even September is OK.

Best Regards,
Andrey

Vaporware? Really? I just found 5 BMCCs on ebay, B&H has them in stock supposedly, and I've had one for the last 4 months. They're pretty easy to find. Definitely not vaporware.

Hopefully they do ship on time. They know how important it is for them to hit this deadline with these 2 cameras so hopefully we'll see them on time.

Then maybe I misunderstood your post. From the way I see it, you called the BMCC vaporware. What am I not understanding then?

It should be pretty easy to figure out. Seriously, if you actually read about what's going on here, it's VERY obvious.

Hah...

Yeah, I know what's going on here...

Bringing this back to the original topic that the OP asked why they are not giving us higher frame rates. I'm sure they'll eventually do it (probably in another camera) as that is one of the most requested features going forward.

Perhaps the MFT mount, yes. However EF is in stock at Adorama and B&H. Unfortunately they may still be breathing vapor in other countries.

I think it's disgraceful that they didn't add a coffee dispenser to the side of the BMC, along with a croissant warmer on the top.

I think I speak for the whole community when I demand this feature. Come on blackmagic, give us what we really want-coffee and pastry snacks on set.

I wonder, do you spent time on the RED and ARRI forums and ask why they don't sell their HFR cameras for $3000?

Anyone remember when everyone just wanted native 24p for the "cinematic look", no one gave a **** about 60p. We get given our 24 and now everyone wants 60. Wants 60fps? Get something else.
