Transparency in Davinci Resolve

PostWed Sep 11, 2019 5:26 pm

Hey there,

is it possible to use vector graphics in Davinci Resolve? Or is there a option to use pixel based graphics with transparency at least? Which formats are compatible? Sorry, if this comes across as a very basic question, but I'm a beginner and clueless on this question.

Thanks in advance!

I've read that only these formats are supported:
Image format: TIFF, JPEG, MOV, TGA, BMP

Is that correct? Have to look into MOV and TGA because the rest does not support transparency...

I use PNG with alpha on occasion. It works.

You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

TIFF (16 bits) is fine. It's a business of choice!

The EXR?With layers??????????the best!

PNG with alpha; TIFF (16 bits)

I did not know that davince resolve takes EXR. Is there a list of all supported image file formats supported by davinci resolve? I want to use EXR since I've heard, it is the best.

I believe the document still applies to Resolve 16. I suspect BMD is still working on the Recommended Config document and the Compatible Formats document for Resolve 16, which is in a state of flux.

Transparency works very well with TIFF, PNG, JPEG, MOV (at least ProRes 444), TGA, and BMP. We generally specify 16-bit TIFF for titles and graphics when possible.
