DaVinci does not run on linux

PostMon Sep 30, 2019 2:44 pm

Hello, I'm an amateur video editor and I had experience especially with Final Cut Pro.
I just started having a quick look at Davinci Resolve on Mac OS, working fine...
I tried also to install Davinci Resolve 16 on LINUX based systems.
I tried on ZORIN OS15 and on Linux Mint 19.2 Tina.

My hardware is:
Desktop CPU intel i7 6700K, Radeon RX 570 8GB and 32 GB RAM
Laptop CPU intel i7 7700, UHD 630 integrated graphics, 16 GB RAM

Once I installed Davinci Resolve 16 for Linux following the instructions, I click on the DAVINCI icon on the desktop BUT nothing happens, the program doesn't run... in both these hardware systems and in both Zorin and Mint...
Can you please help me what is missing in my system to run Davinci Resolve?
Thank you in advance.

Hi,
how have you installed the AMD gpu OpenCL driver?
I found that for me it works best installing the Pro driver with the --headless option, leaving the OpenGL bits stock (mesa)
This on Ubuntu 18.04.3

Cant speak for the laptop, but I doubt that will it run Resolve on linux without a discrete GPU

I think if you have an OpenCL or Cuda issue you'd still see the Resolve splash screen and the Project Manager would load.

What happens if you launch Resolve from the CLI? It may return some info.

Sorry, I don't know what CLI is...

Is Radeon RX 570 a "Metal" architecture...?

How can I install the Pro driver? Thanks...

As far as I know, BMD specifically recommends only CentOS or Red Hat Linux. It may or may not work on other distros, but BMD support says for sure that it will work on those two. Read the Recommended Configuration Guide:

It looks like a problem with your OpenCL setup.

Basically, there are two ways: via the open source ROCm repos, that you can find on github, alongside with a detailed guide of installation,
or via the proprietary AMD driver, available from amd.com

I'd suggest to take the second route, it is more straightforward
and if you can, to continue on the thread that Daniel has kindly created for Resolve issues/reports on Debian Linux derivatives distro

I installed CentOS 8 on my systems but I got the same problem. Davinci Resolve doesn't run...
Thanks, anyway...

I believe only CentOS 7.7 is certified at the moment. CentOS 8.0 only came out about 9 days ago, so it figures it's not quite working yet. This is covered in the Config Guide I referenced above.

At the end I got successful installation of OpenCL library on

CentOS8
extracting amdgpu-pro-19.30-855429-rhel-8 in download folder and open it in terminal
./amdgpu-install --compute

Linux Mint 19.2 Tina
extracting amdgpu-pro-19.30-855429-ubuntu-18.04 in download folder and open it in terminal
./amdgpu-install --compute

ZORIN OS15
extracting amdgpu-pro-19.30-855429-ubuntu-18.04 in download folder
modify amdgpu-install file adding zorin in os_release()
open it in terminal
./amdgpu-install --compute

At the end Davinci resolve started fine in these three linux systems.....

PLEASE is anybody suggesting how to install OpenCL libraries on a laptop HD630 Intel integrated GPU?
THANKS...
