BMPCC 4K and Bluetooth+ app for iPhone

PostThu Sep 26, 2019 10:00 am

Hi all,
My name is Massimiliano Boccalari AKA Maximilian Cope (I'm an Italian born but currently I'm an "Irish adopted" and here, also as an artist, I'm knowed as Maximilian Cope, more simple in English!) and I'm a filmmaker.
I have an issue with my MBPCC 4K and the Bluetooth+ app on iPhone.
I looked for an answer to my question on this forum and on other websites using google but I didn't find any possible answer to my problem.
I bought Bluetooth+ for my iPhone but is not recognized by them. The version of the app is the 1.3.1, all the permissions are allowed on the iPhone (Bluetooth, mobile data, location[while using], and Siri search learn from "Bluetooth" and show in search).
The iPhone is an iPhone 6s OS Version 13.1 (updated last night).
The camera is a BMpCC 4K, software version 6.2.1, both devices are connected to the main power supply and also fully charged, I go on the camera in Setup-page 4 and here Bluetooth is on and is showing the camera Bluetooth name. On the iPhone the camera's name appears under "Select Camera" the name of the camera correctly displayed and when I'm touching the camera's name in the screen than on "connect" appear "connecting" with the three-dot on the bottom flashing in sequence but nothing happens, I also tried to wait for 7 minutes but with no results.

Hi Massimiliano an welcome to the forum.

I happen to have the same setup as you and have now tried to replicate your problem.

These steps should help you to establish the Bluetooth connection:

1) Activate Bluetooth in the camera in the SETUP menu
2) tap on Clear All to clear paired devices
3) in iOS settings under Bluetooth you should see your camera listed - tap the (!) symbol and then tap "Ignore this device"
4) disable Bluetooth on your camera
5) on iOS start the App Bluetooth+ (it will say it doesn't see any cameras)
6) enable Bluetooth on your camera
7) in the App Bluetooth+ tap on "Cancel" to restart scanning for cameras
8) after the App lists your camera, tap it and enter the pairing code the camera shows
9) done
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

I can't get past point 3, the iPhone doesn't recognize the BMPCC 4K in the Bluetooth Devices page. :'(

Can you try to update to iOS 13.1.2 which fixed a problem with Bluetooth connections?

Today iOS 13.1.3 again fixed some Bluetooth problems.
Worth a try?

And have you tried from point 4) forwards?

Thanks, nothing... It is still not working but the camera is viewable from any android device but not from iPhone and any other computer Mac.
I also asked the Blackmagic reseller in Dublin but they have no idea about what happens, the only suggestion that they have is to ask to Apple Store to have the money back!

Ok, that is strange.
Have you try to do a soft reboot on your iPhone?
Pressing Home and Power buttons until it restarts?

And:
iOS won't show the camera in its Bluetooth settings - until you have successfully paired it - that is normal behavior.

The pairing can only be done in the Bluetooth+ app. When trying to pair the camera, you need to be in the camera menu with the Bluetooth setup page - or you WON'T see the pairing code.

Yes, I've tried with the soft reboot but is still not working. In the Blackmagic app, I'm seeing the camera but I can wait also more than 10 minutes and nothing happens.
Also with the iPhone, I have no problem to connect with any other Bluetooth devices, I can't pair just the app on the iPhone with the camera!

So the camera never shows the pairing code while you try to pair?

One last resort would be to reset the network settings of the iPhone, which means you would have to re-type any WLAN password you ever used and pair again any Bluetooth device you are using.

Thanks, I'll try because the pairing number doesn't appear, in the iPhone appear the camera and when I'm trying to connect the phone pushing the "connect" button I can wait for a lot of time but the pairing number doesn't appear, just "waiting"...

Does anyone know how to use the focus on the Nucleus N with this app? I connected to the app but only the rec button is working, the option of focus, zoom or iris aren't.
