Support for the BMMCC

PostTue Oct 29, 2019 8:11 pm

Has BMD officially stopped supporting the Micro Cinema Camera or not? Just curious as it hasn't received an update in ages.

Depends on what you mean by "support." It's still being sold, which means they should still be providing service, but they're not updating it anymore. Great camera, though! I'm thinking of buying a second one. There is a lot of speculation that BMD will come out with a new version, either 4K or 6K, but we'll see. I really like the image quality and flexibility of this camera.

I also keep using BMMCC and still have a lot of accessories in stock here https://lavky.com/radioproektor/
Love to see some firmware updates for this camera as well.

Yes, by support I mean firmware updates.

I'd be very surprised if we see another firmware update for this camera, but only BMD knows the future on that front. It seems much more likely that the current BMMCC will be replaced by a new model, especially because it is harder to find compatible SD cards for the current one and the market for HD-only cameras is dwindling.

I am hoping for a new model, but bigger and more powerful, to either replace (same price range) the current pocket series or have even more pro features (2.5 - 3.5k).

What update would make the camera better or increase its functionality? The hardware has been pushed about as far as it can go with the current FW, and adding something like BRaw is not possible due to the camera’s hardware and sensor limitations. The Micro cameras are great little Cameras, just go out and use them.
