Movie fun: Terminator Dark Fate, The Dark Night, TheKing etc

PostTue Nov 05, 2019 10:29 am

Movie fun: Terminator Dark Fate, The Dark Night, The King, and House of Cards TV series.

Occasionally I'll get well enough to really enjoy things. Such was the case days ago and I watched some really good movies.

I watch a new release on Netflix, The King, about King Henry the fifth, based on Shakespeare's Henerina set of plays.

In the 14th century, it follows the ruse of a young empathetic wastrel Henry to statesman king. Brilliant. The some ghtly Shakespearean English is a bit hard to follow at the low mutterances after midnight, but the acting the story, are quite brilliant in their entirety. I forget much, but I think I sensed a down to earth, but reserved, updated version of the 1960's period portrayal ethic. Very refreshing. This is the sort of thing we should have in our cinemas, I would actually pay to see, but our tightly American controlled cinema time racially discriminates against.

I latter turned my attention to The Dark Night, which I have seen before. It was about evident from the first movie in that series, that there was something dircisl there, despite being able to frequently see the top of the Aircraft Hanger it's street sets were built in. In this movie, Christian Bale's steady stoic Batman is brilliantly played off against by Heath Ledger's Joker portrayal. I watched closely have a movements and acting style, really next level, and one of the great portrayals of All Time, well deserving of an Oscar, even post posthumously, as a life time achievement. You could really see the Australianess in there, of letting loose, particularly the car scene with him sticking his head out the window to sense the air. Only occasionally he momentarily broke down to a mad Max level of acting, but so fleetingly, you might not notice it. Keeping in character there fluently would have been very taxing, unless you are loosing it. Where as the current Joker, which people claim is great acting, seems very disjoint to me, and not flowing like insane people do and are. It can not really compare, even if it is trying to outdo Heath Ledger's portrayal by being more realistic. Bradley Cooper could do a much more flowing portrayal. It is like it is turning on and off the insaness, without the movements inbetween. It is such a shame there wasn't 5 movies, and the same for last decades Spiderman. You hear people getting sick of their most famous role, wanting to do more, but then never getting anywhere much afterwards. If only these movies had a few more it would have been good book ends for them. But that was then.

I thought to watch the Dark Night Rises again, but the next night saw The Terminator Dark Fate. Boy, finally a good Terminator movie again worth seeing. I would love to have seen a sequel to the last one though. But, all these Terminator reboots are hard to take, there are so many of them, maybe even I'll be rescuer of humanity in the next one, for about ten seconds at the start of the film before another reboot (call me :) ). You want to be the next Terminator, just wait long enough and see! Anyway, adrenaline Rush sh done well, and nicely done. Not what we can say for many American 1980's SciFi reboot movies. A good sense of acting and presence, with a fairly nice story line (it is for action SciFi though).

Anyway, then started the series The House of Cards. Now, I'm not fan of Kevin Spacey as an actor, but this was really good for him. Apart from the stage like halting forced acting if the first episodes, it has tact, performance and piose. I noticed the made in Red logo, and thought I should evaluate the footage, but as maybe around 2:30AM, I quickly forgot that by the time I started the next episode.

Plot, a bunch of evil lying people try to upsurp other maybe less evil people. So, not much to see apart from the acting movements and the ussual.

You liked Dark Fate, huh?

You might be the only one. I'm not hearing good things.

What would people know. They expect things to be like house of cards maybe, and forget about weighing it up. Maybe you should see it on a big good screen, then weight it up carefully and report back to us. I'm more forgiving of movies, seeing if the glass is part full. But, definitely better than the last one. :(

More Matt Smith, and seeing if he can save the previous story line.

Terminator 57, Wayne and Jim, realising they had both failed as the terminator in hundreds of seperate timeline reboots each, Duke it out to be the latest terminator and finally wipe the smile off Sarah Occoner, the new head of the terminator resistance (I did say it was hundreds of reboots latter) before the pelican tripod people wipe them out. Or some other such stuff. Hold it, brilliant creative Hollywood network TV mind: Terminator VS Predator VS Alien (second sequel) VS advanced Pelican people. With creative thinking like that, we could be directing writing the new Alien movie! :)

House of cards, I really liked the show, Doug is also played very well, But in the end of the serie there is a rather big plot twist and powershift.
It really hit me in the different style of story telling. The moments he address himself to the viewer and telling things as if you were sitting next to him while the others in the room will not hear it. Well done, well played, :)

It is a pity he got caught in the whole MeToo affair, not saying it is ok he did.. But if he was not involved with that. They could have extended the serie a lot.. While the last season now has a powershift and seems to die after that..

Yes, the last season was short and too complicated. I imagine various sections of the audience had an issue with that. Seriously, somebody like Doing is the sort of person that could take the knife our of his own chest and plunge it into his attacker. Plus, trying to handle cleaning up after some structural damage here, I found it hard to follow from the next room. But, the ending is ideal for a movie, with one loose end threatening to unravel everything. The thing with Doug is like, oh come on. I actually applauded when Frank got shot, such miserable people in such a degraded story line. I actually have a conservative socialist freind who loathe communists, and I tell him it's like a socialist guide to politics, what things would be like of the rat bags had enough power. It probably slips by most people, that house of cards and the blacklist feature a very Russian style theme. It was an awful ordeal to watch it all, but it gives a bit of an idea of the fantasies of one side of politics. The portrayal reflects the way retain people feel about things inwardly. It's when things spin out of control with power going to people's heads, things can start coming out more. There was a famous Russian (I think) feminist who made a movie where the women were in control and were just as obnoxious, rude and power hungry as the men. She had this view that woman were just as bad. I have various friends from the former Soviet block, and rather an eye opener. I've had people from certain tribe who bully beat their men, and whine. Seeing Clair in the series, is sort of like these things.

Anyway. House of cards was also a British series which I have not seen yet. The American acting was stage acting like at the beginning, where actors will talk to the audience in a similar way.

Well Wayne, I'm not really into the whole politics of the USA. For a European guy it is kind of hard to follow if you don't know how the system works on the other side of the pond IRL.
So apart of the political spectacle i found the serie most intriguing.

But then this video came online around this time last year.. And The moment he says it.. It finally hits you.. No you did not see it indeed. I was thinking that they had no way to let it come back into the show to film it actually.. Because he was gone first Episode of the new season. But this video was a real eye opener like hmm What can we expect, What plot twist are we going to get in a next season? :P

That is so messed up in so many ways?

Which part is real life impeachment, and which is fictional, he talks about. You can interpret that in so.. many ways.

Now, back to reality, with once again blackened hair, we can see a bit of the real person coming out. And while the real president of the United States of the subjugated protests he's innocent enough that people believe it, this one does too. Who should we believe a blond on TV, or an albino coloured hair?

Now, a big issue, there is Doug confessing to killing Frank (a twist). The interesting thing is if they body doubled Frank, so he can come back, are they going body double Doug, or maybe Doug wakes up and it was all a dream, like when Bobby wakes up in Dallas, after they just stuffed around too much in the years before. But the former seems as credible as the guy I met years ago who was telling us that the president pope etc, were secretly living on the moon, replaced by robot, or cloned, doubles, the guy supposedly last seen on top of the roof of one of the most infamous jail's in the country during a riot.

A movie, yes, where Clair is revealed convicted and dies as the person she is, and the rest of the plotters, and the whole country goes into morning their corrupt ways and attitudes, and reforms, taking out the other evil doers. Even Frank could be impressed.

I've a decent 4K Home Theater (projection system).

I would be tempted to watch it for free, on Netflix or Amazon Prime. I wouldn't spend money on it dierectly, though.

In my world, the last Terminator was Cameron's T2. There are no others.

So, you haven't seen it.

Jim, it's better than maybe what has come inbetween at least, though the one in the future is something I forgot.

Hold it, got an idea. Terminators find another reality, and go to the Matrix to try to destroy the killing feilds, which the local robots try to defend, as now groups of people dissapear from the matrix, causing it to hang with glitches momentarily at times. Neo's powers are limited over these new comers, and once driven back, they try to hack into the matrix to continue the mayhem, and the city to try to negotiate, and then take over. No more incredible than many new Terminator story flips. At least the present terminator is a continuation of the original.

No, and the more I hear about it, the less I want to...even for free.

The very premise is kind of an affront to the fan base, I think.

Good grief, don't listen to fans that much. Look at what has happened to Starwars since the second movie. Most T movies since T2 have been an affront in some way, but this isn't too bad.

Anyway, on another topic, saw the Irish Man on Netflix, about 3 and a half hours. Yi, but very good.

On that, we agree.

But knowing what happens in the first five minutes of Dark Fate really puts me off.

Yeah, but this is terminator, they have a hard time keeping a straight story line. They should have processed T2 without all the alternative spins. It's like Alien, many American movies where they throw different directors at it in the time sequence. The pro feminist spin puts me off, but it's turning out. It's like Star trek discovery, and. Doctor Who, like oh no! And Noo!! In that order, but things are turning out in both series. Token activism distorting story lines, but it's the acting and story that matters aswell.
