Laggy Project after Leaving it for a while

PostTue Jan 14, 2020 1:47 pm

Hi, I was just wondering if someone has had a similar issue that they figured out.

I was working on a project a few weeks ago, left it unfinished. Playback was good, timeline was at an adequate speed. Then I left it and done 3-4 other projects in the space of about 2 weeks. Came back to it yesterday and the entire project was so laggy that both playback and timeline scrubbing was impossible.

The settings should be identical. I have already set playback to quarter resolution. When I try and render fusion clip for all the clips the red bar appears and does not change. The few clips that manage to change to blue continue to lag.

Specs (don't really matter since project was fine a few weeks ago, but I'll put them in anyways)
GTX 1050
i7-7700HQ Quad-Core
16 GB RAM

Would really appreciate any suggestions

EDIT: It seems that resolve itself is laggy and unresponsive to EVERY project. Not sure why, started two days ago. Before it was working completely fine.

You might want to try restarting your computer, even if it's been otherwise running well.

If you have been working on multiple projects without restarting Resolve and/or your computer, stuff from the previous project can stick in your computer which will cause it to slow down. This is especially true if you're close to the minimum required memory requirement.

Hope that helps

Is it just that one project that's weird?

I've restarted, uninstalled, installed an older version. Reinstalled the newest version. Updated my system drivers and bios.

I've just started a new project and I realise that its affecting all my projects. It was running completely fine until 2 days ago. Now every single action is extremely slow and laggy to the point where nothing can be done .

What kind of source material are you using? What timeline settings are you using?

How do your hard drives rate with the Blackmagic Speed Test?

Mostly MP4 and some audio files. Playback was always fine even without optimised media. Since the issue occurred, I have to optimize media in order for playback to be functioning, but even then it stutters a little bit.

I'm not sure if the speed test can be done on windows?

No just regular MP4 clips.

You might look to an OS or driver update that's causing the system to go funky.

But why isn't it here?

https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/

Very frustrating, BMD's Mac-centricity.

It is available from the BMD support page, it is included in the Blackmagic RAW SDK download.

Ahhhh. Thanks.

I was avoiding that because of the "registration" necessary for download.

Yes, it did cross my mind that I may have to reinstall previous drivers. Problem is, I've no idea what driver could have caused this.

Performing the disk speed test now. Should I do it with resolve running or not?

That is NOT what it claims to be.

If your machine has been sitting with a project open, and your prefs are set to smart cache, it's possible that your cache drive is just getting full. That will slow your speeds down....

MP4 is bad for post (in my opinion). Transcode it to DNxHD first and see how that goes.

I set rendering settings to user, not smart cache. What would be the best way to clear my cache drive?

Also big thank you to everyone that's trying to help me!
