PCC4K - Does Not Support NVMe Storage

PostTue Jan 21, 2020 10:59 pm

Hi Folks,

I wrote an earlier post about the PCC4K not supporting the USB 3.1 gen 2 standard.
I now have evidence that the problem is that the PCC4K does not support NVMe storage - only SATA.

I have two identical M.2 SSD enclosures that use the USB 3.1 gen2 interface.
One supports a B-Key interface (SATA) and the other supports an M-Key interface (NVMe).
The SATA one works fine - no problems using any codec.
The NVMe should work as it is a faster interface - but will not record with any codec.
It will be interesting to see if the new Samsung T7 will work.

Here are the boxes for the two enclosures:

(I used a URL as I couldn't get the Img tag to work.

Something on NVMe storage:

It will be interesting to learn whether Samsung’s new T7 drives, which are NVMe, work. Doubtless someone will test this soon enough.

I've got a Crucial X8 - should be great for the PCC4K - but nope…
It is odd that Blackmagic has an approved device list and not a performance or interface standard.
It is like saying you can only use certain manufacturer of memory or hard disk for your computer.
