Blackmagic Studio Fiber converter power requirements

Hello.

We are going to assemble the fly set with 12 Fiber converters installed into single rack, plus Constellation plus Videohub 40x40.

This whole installation seems to consume a lot of electric power and heat itself accordingly.
The tech specs on website do not have the information about that.

Does anyone have the more or less accurate info regarding the consumption of hardware mentioned above so we could calculate the power and cooling requirements of our fly set?

The power consumption for the Smart Videohub and ATEM Constellation are listed on the product pages:

• Smart Videohub 40x40: power consumption 58 Watts
• ATEM Constellation 8K: power consumption 300 Watts

For the Studio Fiber Converter, the power consumption is not listed on the product page. But since the converter is typically used to power devices at the remote end (such as the Camera Fiber Converter and likely a camera and maybe viewfinder as well), the overall power consumption of the Studio Fiber Converter could vary quite a bit depending on what is connected to it.

It still would be nice if they published the power consumption of the Studio Fiber Converter itself as well as how much current it is capable of delivering over its SMPTE fiber connector though.

You can roughly take 150W per chain. The ursa body itself is about 60/80W add lens, viewfinder, fiber converters and power conversion loss and you will be less or 150W.

I would not recommend switching all 12 chains ON at once. But the whole setup can be powered from a Single Phase 230V 16A power outlet.

What's the power consumption of a BM studio fiber converter + URSA Broadcast camera w/ camera fiber converter? We added 4 to our system and need to increase UPS capacity significantly.

A lot of this depends on what you have connected at the camera end. The power supply is rated at 360 Watts. Daniel's figure is about right for normal setups. If you have a lot of gear at the camera end you can figure under 200 Watts maybe. While it should never run at the full rating, it's probably a good idea to plan for that. There are surges that can spike the requirements at times.
