What "tab handle"?

PostThu Mar 19, 2020 5:33 pm

I am working my way through the DaVinci-Resolve-16-Fusion-Visual-Effects.pdf and have a question.

On page 32 there is a tip that reads "Clicking the tab handle above the viewer cycles through left, right, and center alignment". Can someone point me at what this tip is talking about?

I think that if you're working with tabs in your text

so like this but with tabs (instead of spaces)

then you will get tab markers in the viewer (just like the J T and L you see in Word)
Apparently you can click these to change their alignments.

Thanks for the quick reply. In this case, I am working with two tabs. Note the attached screengrab showing 2 tabs and the the Text+ node selected. Still no tab handles visible in the viewer.

Hm...that's odd. I haven't had time to check it inside of Resolve/Fusion page, but in 'regular' Fusion it does work. Of course that is of no use to you, but it's definitely something to look into.

Update: I just checked the most recent Resolve release and it works in there *for me*

If you copy/paste the following in your Fusion page, do the tab markers show up?

Code: Select all
{
   Tools = ordered() {
      Text1 = TextPlus {
         CtrlWZoom = false,
         Inputs = {
            GlobalOut = Input { Value = 249, },
            Width = Input { Value = 1920, },
            Height = Input { Value = 1080, },
            UseFrameFormatSettings = Input { Value = 1, },
            ["Gamut.SLogVersion"] = Input { Value = FuID { "SLog2" }, },
            StyledText = Input { Value = "Hi   how      are    you", },
            Font = Input { Value = "Open Sans", },
            Style = Input { Value = "Bold", },
            VerticalJustificationNew = Input { Value = 3, },
            HorizontalJustificationNew = Input { Value = 3, },
            ManualFontKerningPlacement = Input {
               Value = StyledText {
                  Array = {
                  },
                  Value = ""
               },
            },
         },
         ViewInfo = OperatorInfo { Pos = { 275, 148.5 } },
      }
   },
   ActiveTool = "Text1"
}

If you zoom out the view in the Viewer, you will see a little box just to the right of the middle just outside the frame of the image. If you click it, it will switch from left, center, or right justified. One will appear each time you click the Tab key to create a space.

Thanks Sander de Regt. I'll give your code a try tomorrow.

If you zoom out the view in the Viewer

If you look at the original post, you will see that the image is already zoomed out, there are no green lines over the image either. But - and I think that might be it - there are no other widgets in the viewer either, so I think maybe the 'show viewer controls' has been turned off. I think the shortcut for that is CTRL+K to turn them on and off. I'd go and try that first if I were the OP.

Sander de Regt,

Thanks again for the help. I pasted your sample code into a new project which contained only a Fusion Composition. Still, no Tab Contol Handles. I all tried CTRL+K. It turned the positioning control on and off but didn't reveal Tab Contol Handles.

Being a new member, I can't respond quickly because by post are in limbo waiting for approval.

I am still running 16.1.2.026 because when I tried updating to 16.2 a few days ago the timeline rendered much, much slower. I haven't tried uninstalling 16.1.2.026 before installing 16.2 yet.

Just FYI, I have now updated to version 16.2.0.055 but that didn't fix the problem.

It's really strange that it doesn't work for you. I've tried it both in Fusion Studio and Resolve and it just works there. Unfortunately I don't know how to help you better right now, since we're both running Windows and similar releases etc.

Thanks for trying. At least I now know what it "should" look like. That is something that was harder to find than you'd think.

Suddenly it is working. I've made no changes that I can think of after uploading to 16.2.0.055 and it wasn't working then. Very strange.
