Teranex AV and Macbook Pro

PostTue Mar 24, 2020 6:46 pm

I am having no luck getting my Macbook Pro to show up on my Teranex AV. Any help is much appreciated.

Here is my setup:

Macbook Pro 15" running Catalina 10.15.3 with Apple USB-C to HDMI converter
HDMI Cable (tried a few different ones)
Teranex AV running version 6.1

Ah I figured it out.

OPTION + CLICK on scaled. Check show low resolution modes and switch to 24hertz.

Check out SwitchresX, It's going to give you a bunch of extra resolutions.

Most of those Apple resolutions are just input scaling, the output stays the same. You can select 1080 from the dropdown but it's really 2160 with 2x larger graphic elements.

Good Luck

Well its not that you need 24Hz to get it working.. But looking at your resolution table with all those weird resolutions. This is were your problem lays. ;)

The Teranex will ONLY accept broadcast resolutions. So anything that is not conform the Input resolutions mentioned on the website / manual will NOT work. ;)

Thank you for the quick and detailed responses!

I think it's a bit misleading on Blackmagic's part to show a primary use case for the Teranex AV as converting a laptop signal to broadcast standards and then being limited to certain resolutions and frame rates in practice. Hopefully a future firmware update will make these more plug and play with some of the most popular laptops and devices.

Is there a reason you dont just select Best for Teranex and get it done?

When I select best for Teranex the Teranex does not recognize the signal from the Macbook Pro.

We can't help that your macbook is not pulling the correct info from the EDID resolution table that is available on the HDMI. ;)

I figured out the culprit. The Apple HDMI adapter will not pass through UHD 60hertz. The cheap Uni brand HDMI adapter sends UHD 60hertz to the Teradek AV no problem.

Thank you again for all of the discussion and help! What an awesome forum.

Is there an edid menu on the Teranex AV? Super secret handshake? Sure would be helpful, if it could request non-integer frame rates it would be magic.

No there is not a EDID editable setup.. EDID is burned in into an EEProm behind the HDMI driver chip. ;)

Image Pros all have edid management, those Parrot boxes as well, surely there are others. Teranex surely does not.

Good Luck
