So my Davinci Resolve 16 won't boot up...

PostSun Apr 05, 2020 3:44 pm

When ever I try to open Resolve, it loads but then does nothing. So I tried checking what would happen in task manager. So I double click on resolve and it says that it is "suspended" in the status column. I have also tried starting the program, then quickly ending the task to kill the program, but that doesn't work. (to explain what happens in task manager: I double click on resolve, and quickly go over to task manager, because it closes a few seconds after it says it's suspended) I have tried restarting my PC. Can anyone help me with this?

Based on these notes (see below), it seems the "suspended" state may not be your problem but it is just a way for Windows to park non-active programs.

Which version of resolve are you on? Have you done a fresh uninstall and reinstall since upgrading?

Notes:

You might be wondering about Suspended Status icons in Task Manager on Windows 10. The green symbols exist in the rows of multiple processes. Usually, you find a very little amount of resource usage for the items displaying the Suspended icons.

The Suspended symbol was added in the Anniversary update but after a span of time, it was removed. Now Windows 10 April 2018 update has brought the icon to show the real status of a process.

Suspended Status Icons in Task Manager on Windows 10
A Process that indicates the Windows apps on your system and live in one of three states: running, suspended or not running. When you open an application from the Start menu tile or list, the Task Manager includes it in the Process list. In fact, it enters into running state and this continues till you are interacting with the app.

One scenario occurs when you minimize the app or navigate for any cause and begin working with other. The process, at this very time, goes to suspended state and starts displaying the icon. The app runs in the background but doesn’t remain active so you see the symbol. As long, you keep it minimized the Suspended state continues.

But as you restore (maximize) the application, the symbol will disappear as it again gains the running status.

See to check which process is absorbing your system components – How to Analyze Resources Performance in Task Manager Windows 10.

This is an opportunity for the application to serialize any state it might need for when you resume or re-activate. When you notice an app is in the Suspended state, Windows suspends the process and threads of its process. As you switch back, the threads get unfrozen and the application regains running state.

This is the mystery of the Suspended green icons in the Status column of Task Manager in Windows 10.

Well I have tried a fresh uninstall and install, and I have done it multiple times. So it's the latest version. What happens when I try to boot up Resolve, it pops up on the task manager and shows that it's taking up resources. It then says suspended, doesn't, then says suspended again and proceeds to close and not appear on task manager.

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open Windows System Information and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here.

I'm having the same issues. Resolve won't start but it will show up in the task manager. Unfortunately, I also tried to run the CaptureLog, and it will say it saved to my desktop, and yet it's not showing up anywhere.

You should see this on your desktop. I have also saved the NFO file to the Desktop. Put these on a file sharing site such as Dropbox and post a link. If the forum will not let you post a link, put a space in the name so it is not seen as a link.

For anyone having issues with CaptureLogs.bat, if your Desktop is on OneDrive, the native CaptureLogs.bat file will fail.

This link shows you what to do in that case:

Just put a space near the front of the link, so the system doesn't see it as a link.

Your current launch attempts are using Resolve 16.2.8. But you were running 17.1.1. Is there some reason you went back to 16.2.8?

The reason Resolve is not starting, is that your config.dat file is corrupt. We keep a backup copy, but it's missing. I don't know how or why that happened.

Go to this folder:

C:\Users\Gaming\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

Delete the config.dat file.

In your case, the .config.data file is also corrupt, so delete that as well.

Unzip the attached file. It unzips into a config.dat file. Place the config.dat file in the folder above.

Also make a copy of the config.dat file and call it config.dat.bak in the folder above.

Resolve should start.

The config file I've provided has your default cache and stills folder set to C:\Users\Gaming\Videos

This may not be the folder you previously had selected. If not, fix that in Resolve Preferences - System - Media Storage.

At any rate, even if this folder is correct, still open Resolve Preferences and do a Save. That will recreate the corrupt .config.data file.

For anyone else reading this, the path above and the attached zip file is configured for this specific system. Don't use the attached file on a different system.

I thought moving from 16 > 17 may have been my issue as I only recently changed over and using 17 so I thought maybe downgrading would resolve the issue perhaps compatibility

I'm glad I came here I will try these steps tonight

Thank you for your support you are a legend and a scholar

On my windows 11, i5 PC when ever I try to open Resolve, it loads but then does nothing. I sow on task manager background processes row when I click on Davinci Resolve the MsMpEng.exe Antimalware Service Executable was uses power very high and on Davinci Resolve status option showing process then "suspended" and automatically closed. I have also tried starting the program, then quickly ending the task to kill the program, but that doesn't work. (to explain what happens in task manager: I double click on resolve, and quickly go over to task manager, because it closes a few seconds after it says it's suspended). I tried all types of suggeation on internet but nuting work. On my pc first Davinci resolve version is 17.4.30010 and yesterday i download and install latest version 17.4.40007 but the problem was not solve. So if anyone help me i will be very helpful. Try turning off Hyper-V.

If that doesn't help, see if you have something like this installed:

Intel CPU Runtime for OpenCL Applications

If you do, uninstall it, and see if that helps.

I'll also mention that your 8GB of system memory does not meet the recommended Resolve minimum of 16GB, but that's not what's stopping it currently. It will probably run (poorly) with 8GB.

experiencing a similar issue, where resolve won't boot at all. i've restarted, done several clean reinstalls, reinstalled/updated nvidia drivers, no progress. i'm on windows 11 using davinci 17.4.5, and my pc has an i5-11400H and a nvidia 3060, with 16gb ram and 512gb ssd (idk what information is useful to know for this so i figured more is better than less)

@Mary: We also need a .NFO file.

Open the Windows System Information app, and select File - Save to make the .NFO file.

Look in the Windows Programs and Features list for any apps with OpenCL in the name.

A likely app you might have installed is the Microsoft OpenCL™ and OpenGL® Compatibility Pack

If you have that, or any other apps with OpenCL in the name, right click them and select Uninstall.

That will likely allow Resolve to start. If not, send another Resolve log and NFO file.

To amend the above post, about where to look for the OpenCL app, I usually suggest using the Control Panel - Programs and Features list. Which still works in Win11. But THAT list does not show the OpenCL app.

You've got to select Settings - Apps - Apps & Features to see if it's installed.

Again, this is what we are looking for: OpenCL™ and OpenGL® Compatibility Pack

If you have that, uninstall it.

I suggested looking in the Programs and Features Control Panel for the OpenCL™ and OpenGL® Compatibility Pack.

It turns out that that app does not show up in the Programs and Features panel. At least not in Windows 11. You'll need to open Windows Settings - Apps - Apps and Features panel to see if the OpenCL™ and OpenGL® Compatibility Pack is installed. If it is, uninstall it.

Shouldn't they call it "Incompatibility Pack" ?

Peter Chamberlain, sorry about that, I have added my real name to the signature line as I'm not sure where to update it.

Anyway, I've been having the same problem as everyone else here, but this is my first time downloading Resolve, never used it before. First time I installed, it got to the quick start menu which I clicked through then showed up an error (can't remember what it was) then closed and didn't want to open again. I've tried everything I could think of and find online, resinstalls, compatibility mode, older versions, nothing works. The most I've gotten is seeing the quick start screen again after a clean reinstall. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Crash is being caused by the Intel UHD620 iGPU driver. There is a slightly newer driver on the ASUS site for your laptop: V27.20.100.8682. Install that, and see if that helps. If not, send another log and NFO file.

Note that your 8GB of system memory is half the recommended minimum for Resolve. That won't stop Resolve from running, but could cause issues with larger projects.
