i have an UV/IR Filter from Heliopan and iam using some older lenses on my bmcc for now. Is it necessary to use a UV/IR only to have a better picture ?
I also have a Video 103 IR BLock Filter from Heliopan. Is operating like the above one. Just a question if i really need them for better picture...otherwise i will send them back..
When you add ND to the BMCC (and most digital cameras) IR pollution starts to increase as you increase ND.
From about 0.9 ND (3 stops) it becomes very noticeable. Your shadows start to become brown and your highlights get a pink tint. This is not easy to fix in post.
The UV/IR filter cuts IR light but the sensors has been designed to deal with IR under normal conditions so it'll not make any noticeable difference. In fact you are more likely to introduce reflections and flares with the filter.
When adding ND you change the balance. So you need to cut IR light too. Some new ND filters include IR filtration (IRND). If the ND filter does not have IR filtration (like Fader NDs) you can add the filter you have.
