Growing/Live Painting of Vector Based Images

PostTue May 19, 2020 7:23 am

Hi,

Is there any to chance to have an SVG, a PDF or any other vector graphic that can be grown (live painted) to the screen?

Let's say you have a drawing of a box that you want to animate, as in all these step-by-step tutorials.

You can do basic shapes like rectangles and circles in at least two ways. You can add a Background node then add a Rectangle mask. You can uncheck solid and increase the border width to create a rectangle. You can then use the length parameter to "shrink/grow" the sides of the rectangle.

You can also use a Paint node to create a shape using the PolyLineStroke and use the Stroke Controls Write On control to do the same thing.

In addition to what Eric just said: the most recent versions of Fusion have a write on/off method for polyline masks as well. So if you import an SVG you can just animate them right in the polyline masks, so there's no longer a need to link those lines to the strokes of a paint tool.

Thanks for that. Is that true of the Resolve Fusion as well or just the standalone?

Since they're pretty much in sync now in a lot of ways I expect it to be in both, but I admit I haven't checked in Resolve yet.

Thank you all for the information so far.
Indeed, I was able to import an SVG and have a look into the polygone group.

But I was not able to detect the "write on/off methode" in the inspector while a polygone was selected.

I'm pretty sure you can click on one of the Paths in the Group and adjust the Length in the Inspector.

Yes, length works. I thought there was a differrent one because it was called "grow feature".
