Connect ATEM Mini to network with ethernet

PostTue May 19, 2020 8:34 pm

I'm going crazy trying to figure out how to connect my ATEM Mini via ethernet - and I fully own my problem is not being schooled in basic networking. I've been reading various answers around this topic, and just keep running into too many terms I don't understand. I've been Googling all day, but can't get it. Here's the issue:

Computer - Macbook Air, no ethernet ports, connected to modem router Smart RG over wifi
ATEM Mini - plugged directly into Smart RG with ethernet, plugged into computer via USB C

I can only seem to control the Mini when USB is connected, not just the ethernet like I should be able to.

I'm trying to connect it to Companion, (and ultimately a Stream Deck) but can't get it to work - I can't work out the meaning of the phrase 'IP address ranges' despite my best efforts. When I go into my Mac's network settings, I see 'Wi-Fi is connected to (network) and has the IP address 192.168.1.2.'

I can get into the ATEM Mini setup screen - what should I set my IP Address to? Gateway?

Thanks in advance

If U not see ATEM from Macbook via ethernet , U can have enabled WIFI isolation on your router ..

Do U have any friend , who is better with networks ? This is really basic networking ..

there's a lot of really easy to understand answers around here that are completely wrong. do yourself a favor and sit thru a few basic networking programs from companies like Cisco or Netgear-people who MAKE network devices. THEY know what they are talking about. Here's a good start...

https://www.coursera.org/learn/home-networking-basics

After you learn the basics you will be able to follow advice when you understand what they are telling you to do.

One thing is sure, you are WAY more likely to utilize your BMD purchase effectively with this knowledge.

This is super unhelpful. If it's that basic, walk me through it.

Most home routers use a netmask of 255.255.255.0 which means that only the last segment of the IP address will change for devices on the local network. If this applies to your router as well, then all of the devices on your local network will use an IP address that starts with 192.168.1.xxx and just the xxx will vary for different devices. The xxx can range between 1 and 254 for devices on the network, with the gateway device (likely the router itself in this case) generally using 1 (so 192.168.1.1 for the gateway).

By default the ATEM ships with an IP address of 192.168.10.240 which will not work on the network configuration I just described since the third segment of the IP address is different (10 instead of 1). So I would try using the ATEM Setup utility (connected over USB) to set the IP address of the ATEM to 192.168.1.240 instead.

And then launch the ATEM Software Control panel and enter the same IP address there (192.168.1.240) when prompted for the ATEM to connect to.

DAVE YOU'RE MY HERO.

I had trial-and-errored so close to the right things, but didn't quite land it, it turns out. Just did what you described, and I'm connected. THANKS!
