The 45-175mm lens is more of a telephoto zoom lens, so it will give you a tighter shot of the action. If you are looking for a wider shot, you might look at something like the Panasonic Lumix 14-42mm PZ lens.
Just be aware that if you switch to a wider angle zoom lens like the 14-42mm, you will gain the ability to do wide shots, but lose the ability to do tighter shots (so the tightest shot possible on the 14-42mm will be pretty close to the widest shot possible on the 45-175mm lens).
Unfortunately there aren't a lot of zoom lens options for larger sensor cameras (Micro 4/3 and larger) that have really large zoom ranges (that go from really wide to really telephoto). For situations where you need a really large zoom range, you are often better off with a smaller sensor camcorder with a 10x or 20x optical zoom lens.
