Error installing Fusion 16

PostFri Jun 26, 2020 11:28 am

I downloaded Fusion Connect 16 from the Blackmagic website but when I try to install it, I get an error saying that I don't have AVID Media Composer or AVID/DS installed. What's that?

I don't see that in any of the program requirements nor have I seen it talked about in the Forum as a requirement.

Thanks much for the help. Keith

If you want to install Fusion 16, it is actually called Fusion Studio 16, not Fusion Connect. You can download it from the bottom of the page in this link which is BM's website.

Avid is video editing software that is prevalent in the professional market.

Fusion Connect is a module that exports a clip from the Avid timeline to Fusion and creates a Saver in Fusion that will export the comp back to the Avid timeline.

Note that Fusion Studio 16 requires a dongle for licensing—there is no free version of the software. If you don't have a license, you'll need to either use Fusion 9 (not Studio), or the version of Fusion that's packaged in Resolve 16. Personally, I recommend Fusion 9 (I have a Studio license, but I still use 9 because it's better in a number of ways), but you do have to scroll down quite a way in the Support page to find it.
