Pocket 4k price spike?

PostMon Jun 29, 2020 11:51 am

Sorry if this has already been discussed as I'm a little late to the party here.

The new updates to the pocket 4k make it a fantastic streaming combo with the ATEM mini pro as well as being a great cinema camera, so I came back around to considering it as a purchase since it's cons are quite out weighed by it's pros at this point. Come to find out it's gone from AUD $1800 all the way up to $2500 rrp and sold for $2300 at a 'discount', what gives? A $700 price jump is not a small one.

Is this a current covid situation of low stock and even higher demand than it was on first release or has this been the going price for a while and the $1800 was some sort of launch price?

Are you perhaps looking at the Pocket 6K or a kit bundle?

No bundle or kit, everywhere I look that is an Australian reseller has the rrp set at 2500 AUD. Even though our dollar only got stronger compared to USD since covid.

Pocket 4k price spike?

Now says $2.200 AUS. Still seems high. Over $1,500 USD but might have taxes included that don’t affect the USD price.

We do indeed have a goods and services tax on all items of 10% which is already included in our pricing but this is still 2200 with a 2500 regular retail price. I was lucky at one stage to get the pocket 4k with about a 3 week wait when it first came out for AUD $1800 but decided it didn't fit my workflow of corporate shoots and sold it off for cost to a friend but with the big switch to live streaming that's vastly changed along with the pocket 4k updates to braw and live stream control with tally light.

I purchased said pocket 4k body only from John Barry sales, who now has the same purchase at 2559 RRP and a 2326 purchase price - https://secure.johnbarry.com.au/blackma ... pochdmft4k

It's a pretty shocking price jump and while it's still probably worth the money I don't see this price hike coming from black magics end but rather greedy resellers?

It was actually even cheaper than I recalled, this is all AUD.

Now I'd be paying a similar price to what I did then to get both the lens and the body? Seem very odd.

Maybe just wait for it to come back down, there isn't really any in stock at B&H here. I bought from 6ave on eBay at the beginning of the year for $1,295 before tax + extra batteries. Now they want $1,700.

BTW B&H has backordered $3.99 kimtek scan wipes for 6 weeks. So I ended up paying $20.00 for 1 box on Amazon to keep going with film scans. Tough times, my neighbor almost died from Covid-19, I feel lucky I can keep buying equipment through the crisis.
