BMPCC 6K - External battery bank

PostTue Jun 30, 2020 6:49 pm

1. Have anyone tried this External battery bank, or similar one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/External-Batte ... SwTqtd3NqS

2. Is the External Power In socket and wiring the same in BMPCC 4K and 6K?

Thanks, however NPF batteries don't have 12V, so what's the catch?

There are many battery solutions out there but the rigging and setups are pretty odd. Most of them will have some cautionary statement from user experience. I've been using the Core Edge solution which is fine with my own cautionary statement from experience as posted in this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=114244&p=629719&hilit=core+edge#p629719

Then other than the BMD Battery grip solution, there is a knock off version for $50 that seem to last close to 3 hours reported in this thread:

For P6K 50Wh battery probably not too effective and you need at least 100Wh V-Mount brick to power camera for few hours. But i still can offer 18650 battery enclosure. it was designed specially for BMMCC, but same time works well with any other device

All similar battery plates just upconvert 7.4V to 12V. This is not too efficient because DC-DC step-up voltage converters waste huge amount of power. Also due tiny size wattage output usually very limited. Components may became hot. there is no any info about max wattage output in specs, but it may be not enough to power 6K camera.

yes this is stepup votage, but you can power your
pocket for a minimum of 2 to 2 1/2 hours with one NP-F970
when it is coming from baxxter (10500 mAh) or so, and not from sony
and one of the battery costs only 45 dollar

Thanks, Dmitry. According to your various posts, an external battery solution would better be 100Wh for it to be effective on the BMPCC 6K. Would I use your module, I'll need 2 of them, at $110 each, plus shipping and plus batteries cost. It's very expensive for me at this time.

...and plus optional Charger, and plus DC cable for Pocket6K from some other seller. I guess 50WH may give you about 2 hours on Pocket6K. Some people use it with Pocket4K, but i have no feedback from Pocket6K users yet.

My 18650 battery enclosure is very specific handmade product, designed for fit BMMCC cage size and provide about 6 hours working time. Only 50 copies where manufactured. So yes, it is not a cheapest option if you just want basic battery pack. But in 1-2 years perspective my battery pack became cost effective because you just replace 18650 cells for $20 instead of purchase new V-mount battery for $100-200.

Dear Dmitry, I didn't say, didn't mean and didn't imply that you charge too much. Your costs of designing and manufacturing those units are understood.
Only, it's too expensive for me at present.
Anyhow, most of my shoots will be stationary, with the camera on a tripod. Thus, for now, whenever and wherever there will be no mains power, I'll just use a proper cable to feed the camera from a large 12V power-bank that will lay on the floor.

The Talentcell power bank has 12 Volt too and is pretty cheap.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

Thanks, Uli.
They aren't portable in a way of ability to attach to the camera cage (SmallRig, in my case).
I have already similar power banks that I can lay on the floor.

Hi Dmitry. I am looking for a power solution for my bmpcc4k, but I'm very confused! I was looking at NPF battery plates, but I don't want to use a dummy battery, and they don't give enough voltage for the Weipu port.

I have seen your battery pack come up a few times. How many hours will it last with the BMPCC4k if it was constantly on? Also, is there any way I can power a monitor with your battery pack at the same time as my BMPCC4k, as that is what I need

Thank you
Alex

Pocket Cinema Camera 4K consumes 22W max. (high frame rates, screen at 100% and recording to a media), so 50Wh battery will power it slightly more than 2 hours. At lower recording settings and display brightness it may work up to 3 hours.

You can power an external monitor and the BMPCC4k at the same time, but do it on your own risk.
It is suggested here https://www.newsshooter.com/2020/02/15/ ... i-outputs/ to turn on camera like this:
1. Connect power to camera
2. Connect power to monitor
3. Turn on camera and monitor ? (HDMI allow hot plugging, but i still not sure about this)
4. Connect HDMI cable to monitor and camera.

and turn off like this:
1. Disconnect HDMI cable from monitor or camera
2. Turn off monitor
3. Turn off camera

My 18650 Battery Enclosure has ON/OFF switch connected internally to positive (+) DC cable wire. If you operate it as described in FAQ, it should formally provide protection from "Ground Looped" connection damages because it will always connect (-) DC power cable pin before (+) DC power cable pin.
Search forums for "ground loop" problem and you see a lot of sad stories. Or here are some latest discussions about "ground loop" problem:
