** PLEASE CREATE AN ATEM MINI/MINI PRO FORUM **

PostWed Apr 22, 2020 2:17 pm

I'd like to petition the admins/mods to consider an ATEM mini subforum. I think it would be a great resource for so many people that are new and consolidate all the same questions into one place. I'll bet that several of the more knowledgeable folks would even do a FAQ and we could PIN it to the top.

I appreciate all the time that the admins/mods and major contributors put into the group. This would be really helpful.

Best,

David

Well for starts why not just a ATEM forum, this has not happened either. ATEMs are used in live productions, so they are in Live Production Forum — simple.

To be honest I'm not sure that's what's needed. With the pricing of the ATEM mini's and pro's and given the need for streaming in our current situation we have a lot of non technical people asking a lot of the same questions over and over and the current forum is getting over-run with Mini posts.

I think it's a different demographic given the pricing and needs. I stand by my request for a Mini forum. It would be great to just point everyone to the Mini group for those posts.

Best,

David

If all that happened was to point them to a separate forum then who would answer those questions for them?

It might be better to pin an FAQ thread titled "ATEM MINI USERS START HERE"...

I would most certainly look at that forum as I would expect people like Gary and Tony. I don't think it would go unnoticed. As I said I think we've had a different demographic enter into our space.

A Subforum would nice, though a post encouraging use of the forums search function would also be good with lots of people asking the same questions.

+100 for a Subforum for the Atem mini.. And pin a FAQ on the top that answers most of their questions...

This forum is now FLOODED with people that can afford "My first Atem" :D But often dont have ANY knowledge about video what so ever....

While i'm a very active member of this forum and really want to help people with real problems and difficult setups.. I'm getting crazy about the Atem mini people.. To a point i'm just feeling less and less helpfull to go to the forum and help people..

I even hit the Mark all topics read button several times over the last weeks... :? :?
I would be happy to make a FAQ for the Mini sub forum.. As i did with the Live production section.. But please make it happen that we can split and direct users to the correct sub section to find there answers.. Because i'm getting tired of the Same questions OVER and OVER again...

Please consider it!!

I second Daniel. If we manage to piss him off, half of all the good information will go away. I seldom come here anymore due to the amount of "mini" questions. I cant offer help as I don't have one and its just frustrating to me when people want it to do everything for nothing so I say nothing. I say - New "Streaming" subforum

Yes, I agree also, a sub forum would work, or create an ATEM forum, like they did for Resolve, and have a Mini sub-forum on that. Leave Live Production for camera and general production questions - hum.. why didn’t I think of that.

I'm with Daniel too. Well said buddy!!

And while you are at it, how about a Networking 101 forum as well. I know that's not really a BMD product, but how many of these posts have this as a related issue-I'm talking to you ATEM mini people... Actually just saw Aric's suggestion for a "Streaming" section, good idea.

And you think it's bad now?? How big can this flood get when these are fully into the distribution pipe....

+1 because most of the ATEM mini/pro users are new to ATEMS and are streaming to YouTube etc. They are not in a TV studio or "broadcast" situation. So you have lots newbies doing something different to most of the other ATEM users here.

If anything screams we need a separate ATEM mini/pro area that post does.

Especially as the dinosaurs in BMD's smaller markets (ie TV and Broadcast) don't seem to like the YouTube/streaming people and even less so when they ask questions like that! :-)

Seriously I expect the market for the ATEM Mini series is already vastly bigger than the other ATEMs BMD has and most are all going to be newbies operating in a very different world to the [traditional] TV and Broadcast areas. They speak a different language.

This was brought home at the BCS bash in London this year the BMD Resolve person was talking "dailies" and "rushes" but the person talking to him was saying "clips" The ATEM Mini People won't know what SDI is. (or care)

As an old old video guy. I'm always happy to help someone with questions, most of my last 3 weeks have been eaten up talking to church's about how to set up some kind of stream using someone's old android phone. Some of these mini questions take an hour to figure out what the question is. We have a few very technical experts here who can help even advanced users dial in BM's high end gear. We can't let that knowledge base walk away. From a business standpoint it would cost BM a zillion INR to step up and do that work. I think BM should send Daniel and Greg a free video assist (7" not a 5") each year for the good will they have helped build for the company. Some others maybe just an sdi to hdmi converter (just one, side, make them buy the other side you can even not send a power supply, or maby a open box NAB demo from 2019, even a preproduction test unit would be a nice gesture) +3.14159 for new subforum

Agree on the separation. Call it whatever, but yes. There needs to be a place for the new ATEM Mini users. We can all go in and help when we are able, but the wheat content of the Live Production forum is falling off precipitously.

Great idea. All questions for help on any BMD equipment EG how does it work, how can i do this, any tricks, tips etc all go to BMD and any discussion of them here is banned. Which leaves what on the forum?

Or were you just wanting to get rid of BMD's biggest market and largest pool of users?

BUMP for Gary Adams and Tony Rivera.

Over 50% of the Live production form on the first 2 pages is Mini Related.

Please consider consolidating it into its own subforum.

I would be happy to moderate that forum or contribute on a regular basis. Daniel has said he would do a Mini FAQ as he has done in this page and I will help him with that.

Again i'm very willing to create a FAQ towards the Atem mini, IF bmd decides to make a sub forum for the Atem mini..

I think 80% of all questions can be answered by an FAQ. because most of those questions are from users that lack reading the manual, buy some USB-C charge cable instead of data cable, Want to know if there laptop supports it without having USB-C connection. What resolution comes from the USB, How to setup IP addresses for the Mini so it will stream.. And Why the F His Atem mini ( non pro) does not stream or give a Multiviewer output on HDMI.. :?

As most of these related questions have nothing to do with the whole other Atem line-up as most of these features are not included on the bigger Atems anyway. It's good make a sub forum with most asked questions already handled from the FAQ. and others can chip in with Tutorials on HOW TO Stream, HOW TO Record, HOW TO Basic Atem mini. This would solve SOOOO MANY things.. :)

If you want to go ahead and create FAQ (I assume you can base it off the on you already did) I'll be happy to add to it and we can post it and hope they will either PIN it to the top of this forum or this will convince them to create a subforum. I agree that the demographic of the mini user is typically different than the majority of folks that make up this forum. It's not a knock on anyone personally, it's that BM has dipped their toe into the consumer marketplace and like many first attempts, it's not exactly plug and play and a reasonable amount of technical skill is still required.

Let me know how I can help!

Best,

David

What number we're at, I +(xxx, xxx) this. As a brand-new ATEM Mini user for a church I have no desire to offend people who get their livelihood from these products. But at the same time, many of us, even with 20+ years of enterprise I.T. experience, are finding that video production is a completely different animal - even if the tools look so similar.

I think BM would do well to not under-estimate the impact COVID combined with a low-cost, feature-rich video switcher is going to have both on their sales, but also on their support.

Please give us a dedicated forum to keep our (newbie) questions in.

This Forum organisation is not the problem. The problem is some people have other priorities than trying to spend hours and money to resolve hdmi output issues without the support of the company (BMD) that sells them.

>>>t's that BM has dipped their toe into the consumer marketplace

Agreed.

I am trying to purchase 2 more Mini Pros for our church. I have found one place that had a few in stock for $900, but am unwilling to pay their premium.

I have spoken to some authorized dealers on the phone and heard some interesting comments. It was suggested the Mini Pros have been built but are being held up by because of current events. Delivery is very far out.

So as an engineer that suggests to me BM has had to pay for the production which it can't gain access to sell. And BM is in a bad spot regarding placing orders for more production not knowing when they will ship given they cant get at the current order.

So the Mini Pro might have BM in a bit of a noose right now. :(

Xtreemtec wrote:Again i'm very willing to create a FAQ towards the Atem mini, IF bmd decides to make a sub forum for the Atem mini..

I am in complete agreement with you. Reading about how many ATEM Minis someone needs for their church is not what I'm looking for here.
2 x Sony FX9, 2 x Sony FX6, 6 x Ursa Broadcasts, 2 x Canon CR-N500 PTZeds with MRMC auto-tracking, ATEM CCU, ATEM TV Studio 4K. NewTek Tricaster TC1 and 460. Dataton Watchout, Reckeen 3D Studio & vMix 4K

I have been 2 months away from this forum.. And still no mini forum.. Going into hybernation again..

There really is no fun anymore by answering the same questions over and over again... Because people do not Search, Do not read, Dont look at the manual.. Because asking it is much faster right.... :?

I think it is a real pity for the "advanced " users that came here with real problems and needed pro advice or help with looking for the bug in the system.....

But answering every day the same questions like why does my source do not work on HDMI 1 but does on HMDI 2,3,4 And how can i put the multiviewer on the USB, Why cant i control my camera with HDMI SDI converters in between.. And can i capture to disk and connect usb to the pc for streaming...

I got tired and left the forum sadly... :|

I also have to admit that I stopped looking on the forums regularly... also tired of filtering out the "pro" topics. There is too much basic ATEM mini stuff around here now...

Please create a separate forum!

+1 BMD mods needs to get over keeping the categories as concise as possible and address the fact the the mini and mini pro has opened up a new and necessary prosumer category both in sales and support. Make it happen on the forum.

+1 The ATEM Mini/Pro is a HUGE market, larger than the traditional ATEM Broadcast market. However it is also very different people coming from a different background. Different not un-professional

I see traditional ATEM users talking of "YouTube/iMovie" people disparagingly however most successful YouTubers have production companies of 5-25 people. It should be "YouTube/Netflix" vs "Film/Broadcast" The latter being a smaller (and dying format)

As BDM are encouraging thousands (10's of thousands?) of ATEM Mini/pro users to use the BMD forum, this forum, Perhaps a sub-forum or area for them would be good.

BTW re YouTube/iMovie I note that Resolve now has a render and upload to YouTube feature built in. So it is clear that BMD is going after the HUGE online and streaming market. After all it is far larger than the Traditional film/broadcast market.

To the old guard.I do feel your pain. I had been on line about 10 years when the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_Septemberhappened and the rest of you invaded my space on the Internet.

The big problem is that the few people around on this forum that really know there A game when it comes to BMD gear and live productions. Are more and more moving away. Due to this Atem mini overflow on the forum.

Is this what BMD wants? to let the real strength behind this forum, The knowledgeable people leave the forum and the mods have to deal with everything???

Exactly. The ATEM mini market is HUGE but a different sort of professional. Hence having a separate sub forum. There will, over the next few months, start to be a lot of ATEM MINI experts on this forum from the YouTube et al streaming community. So the knowledgable people on this forum will change. However it would be better not to loose the current experts on the older kit.

This is a bit like the Apple PRO users a few years ago when apple did the iPhone/Pod/Pad and moved away from their traditional market. Outside the small group of high end Pro users who Apple spoke to the rest of us felt disenfranchised.
