I've already updated mine. All seems in order. No changes that I can see.

The normal screen flicker after the firmware update lasted a few minutes.

No changes? Hoped that 1% increment would be included in the new firmware :(
Also hoped a touch-auto focus would come for the BMCC EF.. hopefully version 1.5 comes out next week with the release of BMPCC...

I'm apprehensive to upgrade from 1.2.1.

Have they fixed the recording external audio bug as it was broken on my BMCC MFT until I downgraded firmware?

Support for pocket model? But not the 4K model. That's not surprising, they did say the pocket model is further along in development than the 4K model. But it would have been an exciting sign if it had support for both.

Firmware 1.4 or Camera Utility Software 1.4?

This doesn't look like a camera firmware update to me.

The manual has been updated too:

http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/media/5 ... y_2013.pdf

The camera will automatically switch to line level if the audio is too loud for a sustained period.

Darn! Looks like they've brought back this "feature".

Its the same thing, the utility is to update the camera, when a new utility version is released - it is equal to a new camera update.

I have updated my camera to 1.4 now and can report that as expected - there are no apparent changes to the bmcc.

When I last updated my BMCC it listed the firmware changes in the utility installer. This is probably more an update to get the utility ready for the Pocket Camera :) Not that the BMCC doesn't need a proper firmware update after a year. Compressed raw is coming, right?

Morning all.

As you guys have noted, 1.4 is all about support for the Pocket Cinema Camera.

And Dark Fable, aaaa, typos. Good eyes. I'll get that fixed.

I have to say, a little disappointed that this did not add anything to the existing models. I know new things are being worked on, but to get nothing new after waiting so long is a let down.

Love the BMCC and patiently waiting for:

Compressed raw
basic auto focus
60 fps
audio meters
Batt %
Storage left %
delete files
Compatibility with a larger selection of remote control triggers.

Thanks for all the hard work thus far. Looking forward to 1.5

Might want to amend the list of shooting resolutions too - it only lists 1080p resolutions for the BMCC.

It's officially announced and documented as a feature of the BMPCC pocket and BMPC-4K cams. So, it's reasonable to assume it's most-definitely coming for those cameras.

BMD has said they are looking at the possibility of bringing compressed RAW to the original BMCC, but no guarantees. It's not an announced feature for the BMCC. For example, their engineers may determine the hardware can't handle it. Or whatever the reason -- even if it's a purely financial/business reason -- compressed RAW may or may not become available on the original BMCC.

i updated my EF model to FW 1.4,and now my Canon EF 35mm f1.4 works correctly. ;)

Hidden bug fixes? ;)

EDIT:

Agreed, thanks!
But most features on that list are "nice to haves". I think only "audio meters" and "storage left" are critical, necessary features.
It's a bit unnerving when you are shooting raw and there are no empty SSDs left and you have no idea how long you can keep shooting.
On the other hand, one could just buy more SSDs to get around that. ;)

Any way I too hope to have one or more features from that list in the future.

There are several interviews from NAB and around that time that explicitly say it is coming to the BMCC. Including during indepth conversations for blogs, not just during floor demos.

There are several saying 'we're looking at it' as well.

I do hope that if they bring compressed RAW to the BMCC, that they won't get rid of uncompressed RAW, though I doubt they'd take away a main feature the camera was sold for.

The only way I can conceive BMD eliminating uncompressed RAW in favor of compressed RAW is if the firmware code to do both can't fit in the camera's flashable memory (or whatever it's called). I suspect the code to do uncompressed RAW is smaller than the code to do compressed RAW, but that's totally a guess. The other unknown is if the BMCC's hardware can generate compressed RAW fast enough to record it. I'm sure there are other challenges BMDs engineers are faced with, too.

That's why it's always made sense to me that BMD will try to bring compressed RAW to the BMCC if it's possible, but it remains to be seem if it's possible or not. Here's hoping.

Here is how I see this..

I could be wrong but it seems to me that...

1) They are going to release the pocket camera very soon but don't think that all the firmware updates they want to have in it will be done in time.

2) So they they release this firmware to make sure the camera actually has a firmware when it is released for market.

But this is pure speculation.

I am seeing similar behavior with Tamron lens as reported in Lens Compatibility thread.

Edit. After several restarts of the camera it looks like the problem is disappearing. Weird.

1.4 is the shipping firmware for the pocket cinema camera. To that camera it adds AF and more accurate battery status. Both of which weren't in the original features announced with the camera. So yeah, I'd agree and say it's feature packed.

These features should follow through to the other cameras.

Yeah me too. Aside from the other things talked about at NAB like the possibility of 2.5K ProRes, Compressed RAW, Quicktime wrapped RAW, and other possibilities, I'd love to finally see the green peaking on the Pocket cam in the BMCC2.5k firmware. The Pocket Cam's peaking function is so much better than the 2.5K's peaking.
