Colorists inteviews or tips/tricks series.

PostSat Jul 25, 2020 1:25 pm

Is there any series whee BMD interviews established colorists/editors for their tips/tricks. If not already, I would suggest this should be started as soon as possible. TIA

There are plenty of people publishing such content on their own, no need for a third party to come interview them.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Thanks for the reply.
I don't think there is any harm if BMD does this too. The information will be authentic and good for educational purpose also.

Let BMD focus their energy on fixing bugs and implementing the fixes requested by users.

There are a a great deal of interviews with high end colorist. Go to FilmLight’s page and check the LiftGammaGain forums. PostPerspective newsletters have a slew of them as well. The best learning resources are Mixinglight, FXPHD and the ICA.

That depends. Money spent on not-developing is money taken away from developing.

MixingLight does a lot of this and I pick up some interesting tips from them now and then.

Lowepost has moments and has some very good tutorials now and then. I also like Warren Eagles' tutorials over on FXPHD.

Getting "colorist interviews" is a little trickier, because most of the people working on high-profile projects are not necessarily interested in disclosing their secrets.

Alexis van Hurkman had a very nice Q&A "happy hour" video series earlier this year where he answered viewers' questions and gave a lot of useful advice and walkthroughs. They're free and worth watching: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSbLAM ... Y1w/videos

Like a colorist mentioned that he works in ACES before converting to rec709.
I'll share that video when I find.
Raw>ACES>>Grade>>rec709.
before that I knew that we should work in log c

I would suggest joining MixingLight or FXPHD or the ICA if you want a proper primary colorist education. YouTube videos are just that... you get what you pay for.

I find this guy really good, and one of the best, most informative free resources on YouTube. He's might be a tad annoying but he knows his ****. You'll pick up loads of great techniques in no times at all.

Jonny Elwyn's blog has a lot of info, maybe start with this post:
https://jonnyelwyn.co.uk/film-and-video ... -training/

Then when you want to get really deep, you can jump over to Lowepost for their advanced courses:
