Atem Mini Pro Multiwiew & Programm as HDMI the same time

PostMon Jul 06, 2020 9:08 am

Dear everyone
We would like to use the Atem Mini Pro as a live switcher for events. For this reason, we need the HDMI Output of the AtemMini as Multiview-Output for the „Director-Monitor“. We do now need the Programm-Signal as HDMI as well. Is there a possibility to get this? And if this would need the network input of the AtemMini: is it possible to use Network as remote input the same time?
Thank you soooo much, I am (as you see) no professional user...
Thanks
Michael

You bought the wrong Atem. You need an Atem TVS HD or bigger to do what you need. ;)

I swear this is the last time im going to answer these two questions. Im doing it almost daily either here or on FB groups.

No, mini doesn't output a std usbc signal that can be implemented by a usbc to hdmi converter. Its output is motion jpeg. Where each video frame is compressed and presented as a jpeg picture image. Think of the flick books of old, but with a high frame rate.

It's almost as if we need a separate ATEM Mini sub-forum with a dedicated ATEM Mini FAQ to address these common questions.

You know, the kind of thing that was proposed back in April in this thread:

Well i guess the stream bridge might shortly be one solution for simultaneous MV and program outputs. But im guessing the encode/decode process is going to add delay to the program output, so maybe not?

I think you can try to do this through the recently announced "ATEM streaming bridge". Judging by the announcement, you can connect it directly to the ATEM mini pro's Ethernet output, and get SDI/HDMI at the output. $350 price. "MV" on ATEM mini pro HDMI, "Program" on ATEM streaming bridge HDMI/SDI.
Sorry for my English, I only study it yet.

Yes, there will be delay.

Whether or not that is acceptable depends on the specific application.

If this is feeding a display in the same room as the action being captured on camera, clearly the delay will be a major problem with this approach.

If this is feeding an overflow room, for example, where the audience is not able to see the live action in front of them at the same time as the program out, then if the delay is correctly handled it might not be as much of an issue.

This is not clearly spelled out in the request from the OP so we can only guess as to whether or not it would be a problem for them.

All that said, the cost of the ATEM Mini Pro + the streaming bridge is not all that much of a savings from the TV Studio HD, so for not too much more you could simply run SDI to the streaming room in some cases, eliminating the delay and providing better quality...
