Hard Case for Blackmagic Camera and Accessories

PostWed Jul 10, 2013 9:19 pm

Hi All,

I working on developing a protective case for the Blackmagic Camera and accessories that go along with it. I work for a shipping and transit case company that makes cases with custom foam interiors (Pelican, SKB, Anvil Cases, Ect.). We are looking into some new products to offer on our website and one of them is a case for the Blackmagic camera and accessories.

My questions to you are as follows-

What items should I create custom cutouts in the foam for? Camera, batteries, LCD screens, lenses, ect. I'm not a camera expert so I'm looking for all you opinions on what would be the best generic configuration and most popular items the majority of Blackmagic camera owners have. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks

That vey cool to hear you're making a case. I'd say that it's somewhat difficult because just about everybody will divide up their kit differently. I like the cases that have the little foam cubes that you can remove to customize the inner lining to fit your own setup.

That being said, what I like to take with me is:

- The camera
- LCD screen
- At least 3 lenses
- At least 1 spare battery
- 1 or 2 spare SSD drives
- various cables and misc parts

Unfortunately there's no standard size for any of those things except the camera! But, anyway that's what I personally would carry around with me if I wanted a self-contained case for my camera and essentials.

What a great idea! Thanks for entertaining this idea. I loathe the idea of pick and plucking another Pelican case for the BMCC... Ideally for me (and most other users, I'd imagine) a place for:

The camera with sunscreen
Slots for extra SSDs (3-4?)
At least 3 lens pockets
A slot for 11" or 13" MacBook Air (or ability to customize a laptop slot)
Cable storage
External Battery Storage
External HDD slot (2)

My two pennies! Thanks again!

I know it's tiny, but would love one made for the pocket camera and kit!

Is there anyone located in San Diego, CA that would allow me to barrow some of the equipment you all have listed above? I would need to use it for a day or two so I can drawing up all the items in CAD. If so, please let me know, I could offer you a great discount on the case!

I second that! I think I would be highly mobile with my Pocket Camera, that's for sure!

Third that, a good custom case for the Pocket Rocket (or 4 of them) would be great.

Do you do custom liners to spec?

I spoke w/ SKB and Seahorse Cases at Cinegear Expo and neither are planning to make precut cases for the Pocket Cinema.

Casecreator, if you make one, I am interested.
