Feature request: Software rack focus on BMPCC4K

PostFri Oct 16, 2020 5:56 pm

Hey all! I recently switched to Xperia 1 smartphone mainly for its 4K display and LDAC capability but its got this Cinema Pro app which impressed me a lot than I thought it would. I'm not gonna dive into what all it offers since it's just a phone first, but there is one feature which i'd love to have on my BMPCC4K and that is the software optimized rack focus.

You can tap focus (or manually set) a point and mark it with A/B and choose another focus point to A/B. Then while recording you can just hit a button to switch focus points. We can set the rack timing as well! I know and I'm not complaining about the absence of auto focus on BMPCC but this software addition would be very handy to have especially when you are out and about with no proper gear around.

What do you guys think? I'm sure Blackmagic can add this with software update. No hardware needed.

I haven't tried it, but there are some focus features in the third party app Bluetooth+ for Blackmagic. In the app description the developer lists some caveats, mostly related to Bluetooth communication and EF lenses.

It is not only focus, but all camera parameters, including colour corrections that can be stored to the presets. An not only camera but gimbal too.

I understand though the addiction to have that feature on camera.

Jeez! that's one super wholesome tool.

I like what Shahriyar is asking for and Kim, I think I have a little understanding of the LeVitZer and your pan/tilt head and even though the content of the videos are a bit beyond me so I'm trying to absorb it, it really looks cool. For starters, it will be nice to have a focus switcher settings that just works with the camera like the Pocket and the UMP and maybe through a firmware upgrade. I don't have my hopes high but you never know.
