Looking for Camera Cage Recommendations for Blackmagic Desig

PostFri Oct 16, 2020 10:45 pm

Greetings,

I'm getting ready to purchase a Blackmagic design pocket cinema camera 6K and looking for accessory recommendations. We are a commercial film production company and mainly shoot commercials but are moving more and more into documentary and feature film work.

That said I will probably be recording to an external drive and looking for battery recommendations and camera cage options. Additionally, we do use all professional microphones short and long shotguns along with lavalier mics and need a way to interface them into the camera.

Camera cage suggestions greatly appreciated. We do already have quite a large investment in Redrock micro rails, lens shades follow focus rigs etc. I look forward to opening a dialogue with someone that is willing to help me along my path of purchase. This will be my first foray into purchasing Blackmagic design cameras.

Any and all help greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Rip Noel

The Small rig cage works good and they have a good set of other attachments. Have one on up BMPCC4K and a BMPCC6K.

I have the Kondor Blue ultimate rig set-up. So far this has given me everything I needed on my completely rigged out set-up.

One thing to be aware of. If you want to use the Crane 3S then you will need a half-cage in order to fit the 6K on the gimbal without offsetting it. This goes for any cage brand as there is just not enough room on the gimbal.

Thanks to everyone for your comments here. One more quick question for the group… Does anyone know if the rails that work with most of these camera cages are a consistent size? I do have quite a bit invested in Redrock micro rails, matte box, follow focus, etc... and these use 15 mm carbon fiber rails.

Again thanks to all!

I use the cages from 8Sinn. Great stuff and well machined.

15mm rails are standard. All of my 8Sinn gear is based around 15mm and I have some SmallRig bits that are also that size. Your Redrock gear will work just fine.

I’m using Shape for the BMPCC4K. It looks like all the major players are doing a good job so just decide which design you favour.

Tilta does fit an entire ecosystem of accessories around their cage if that’s an important consideration. I already had some of that ecosystem anyway from kitting the UM46K so didn’t need the Tilta ecosystem.
