[Solved] Intensity Pro 4K NO Desktop Video Setup

PostSat Nov 21, 2020 10:46 am

New computer:
CPU: R9 5950X, RAM 128 GB 3200MHz, PCIe 4, GPU Quadro P4000 (RTX 3090 in a few days), Win 10 Pro version 20H2 build 19042.630.

BMD Desktop Video version 11.7

Problem:
The Blackmagic Desktop Video Setup application starts but does not show any interface.
Only an empty white square shows when the mouse hovers over the application's icon on the taskbar.

When I installed the system the day before yesterday, the application functioned properly and I could configure the Intensity Pro 4K.
Now I need to change the settings but no app . . .

Any help and suggestions appreciated.

Hi Udo, nice build, is this a computer someone assembled for you, or did you select components and do it yourself? I've got a similar build about to begin (waiting on the 3090, which has already shipped). Here's a link if you'd like to contribute: https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=124099
. . . so to your issue;
    1. Have you tried updating drivers?
    2. What about reinstalling the software? Yes, a pain in the hind end, I know this.
    3. Have you contacted support? Are they nice, or useless?
    4. Which mobo?
    5. What RAM (specifically) are you using? Perhaps a clue lies within this information.
Anyway, I presume you would have said if you'd update something or change something else before this happened.

Hi John,
1. Installed, re-installed multiple times.

2. DR 17 B3 will hopefully solve the problem and be out when I have to start grading the first project on the new machine.
The regular video output from DR via Intensity Pro 4K functions properly.

3. Will do tomorrow.

4. Build: MB: Asus ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Hero, RAM: 4x32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4 3200Mhz, CPU: R9 5950X, Cooling: Noctua NH-D15 Chromax Black, GPU: Rog Strix RTX 3090 (dual later), PSU: Corsair AX1600i, Case: Lian Li E-ATX Full Tower, Storage: 8 SSDs (room for 48 in the case), Win 10 Pro version 20H2 build 19042.630.

5. I tried with the initial automatic BIOS settings: PBO disabled and 2666 DRAM frequency. No change, the Desktop Video Setup application still does not load.
After the initial W10 installation two days ago, the setup app worked just fine, still, re-installing the whole system will not assure a stable result since I will need to setup the system as I did the first time.

RAM is 3200, is that on the compatibility list for your mobo? I went with 3600. No clue itf this is it but something is wrong. Have you tried just the OS and nothing else before installing DR?

Anyway, I wanted the 5950X but had no luck getting it. Ordered it, paid, subsequently received notice of delayed delivery (1st quarter 2021) and canceled it. Bought the 3950X but after it arrived, decided to buy the 3700X instead and later, when 5950X become more plentiful, I'll replace the 3700X. So the 3950X is going back (unopened). Meanwhile, I'm still awaiting my 3090 video card.

Have you received the 3090, yet?

The DRAM frequency is set from the D.O.C.P Standard profile of the MB.
3090 in a few days.

I contacted BM Support a few days ago, but no reply so far.

The Blackmagic Desktop Video Setup application is still not opening.

What's the BMD Desktop Video Setup, the application for installing the Resolve Studio software? Have you been able to install other software?

1. Have you got the latest drives for the mobo? Video card? Everything else? Yes, I'm pretty sure you already know this - but - at this point it doesn't hurt to double check (and honestly, I don't know what else to do but confirm drivers, etc.

2. Have you confirmed the RAM is 100% compatible? I've just learned of a website called PC Parts Picker https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ where you can input your specific mobo, case, RAM, video card, everything and it will advise you of compatibility issues. Designed to sell you stuff (they collect their affiliate fee from Amazon so you don't see their commission) but nevertheless, a useful tool. I've confirmed my bits and pieces and discovered one of the SSD drives supposedly won't fit. I'll know for sure once I begin to assemble the bits but forewarned is forearmed, e.g. I won't be taken by surprise now.

3. Have you tried installing the free version of Resolve?

4. The operating system boots and it's up to date, right? Damn, I don't know where else to go with this and suspect BMD is going to say the mobo isn't on their approved list. Darn, darn, darn, darn, darn, I sure hope this doesn't happen with me!

And on my end, I wasn't expecting 3090 until Dec 1-3 but curiosity drove me to check the tracking number and as it turns out, it arrived Wednesday (last week) but it doesn't matter that the video card was here because the 3700X isn't due until tomorrow from Newegg.

Problem solved.
New BIOS for the X570 Crosshair VIII Hero mainboard and the setup application opens as normal.

I seem to recall there being an updated BIOS for 5xxx series CPUs in AM4 socket mobos, perhaps related? Anyway, I'm glad you've sorted this and am happy for you. If only I could purchase the 5950X and return this 3700X unopened. Oh well, for me editing 1080 material it probably makes little difference the waiting.
