buget ENG lenses

PostSun Aug 11, 2013 2:46 am

I could use a half decent ENG lense to fit on my EF mount cinema camera. Dont know much about these lenses...just enough to kbow i want one. I Checked out ebay and found some ENG lenses way cheaper then I thought I would. These can not be decent lenses am I right? 800 dollars for an ENG lens seems a little TOO cheap doesnt it? Any advice regarding ENG lenses would be welcome.

Hey Jonathon if you haven't read Marcos blog you should,
I think the cheapest ENG Lens that he mentions is more like 7K because you want "HD ENG" Lenses.

In addition to Marco Solorio's BMCC-specific ENG (B4) zoom lens info, see also:

Fujinon Pegasus III is a pretty decent SD lens for use. I have one and am impressed with the IQ.

We have a group on Facebook discussing B4 lenses.

Well if you ever want an SD ENG lens I have one for sale. It's a Fujinon. I used on my JVC110u before getting the BMCC. Let me know how much you want for it. I live in Toronto btw...

Well naturally I am more interested in an HD one. I imagine an SD one would be too soft for professional use in 2014?

Darryl and Peter, thanks for mentioning my link to my ENG Cinema Camera write-up.

@ungoernedreason: I'd highly suggest HD lenses when working with B4 mount on the BMCC. The testing I've done with SD alternatives falls short if you plan on using them for professional/paid work (fun to use though). Heavy edge smearing, more chromatic aberration, overall softness... it's all there in SD. HD lenses resolve much better. Keep in mind that a lens with a 2X extender is also required, adding to the idea that HD resolving power is best. The 17x HD Fujinon I commonly use sells for around $4k to $5k on eBay (a clean, non-abused example) and is $10k new.
