Resolve 9 Lite, 4K footage to 1080 project

PostFri Sep 28, 2012 9:27 am

Does Davinci Resolve 9 Lite uses original 4K footage information when sizing to 1080p project? Or it limits footage to 1080 also and scales from it?

I need to make 2x-zoom fore some of my 4k r3d shots and export it to 1080p. Mathematically I have enough resolution for this, but if Resolve Lite uses only 2K from 4K footage, it will scale footage twice instead of just crop it out from original.

So do I need full version of Resolve for this operation or no?

You'll need the full version in order to support the higher resolution format.

Given that, it should sample from the whole image so long as you are using the zoom features in resolve.

Just to clarify, Resolve Lite has a limited timeline resolution of HD. You can use higher resolution sources and Resolve will size those to HD. You will need the full version if you wish to render or monitor at higher than HD.

In your case, the r3d 4k material can be decoded at half res or full res but either way Resolve will size the image to HD when using Lite.
