Meanwhile, my BMPCC4K is gathering dust while I’ve gone back to my 1080p BMMCC.

i mean, if Sony Alpha world is all you've known, then you'd probably consider upgrading.

Loving the color science, dynamic range, and BRAW capabilities of my Pocket 4k and UMPG2, this doesn't excite me in the least. (but again, i'm using my cameras for video, not a hybrid photo/video camera).

The Sony A1 is a technological stunning camera, but the colour and image quality of Sony’s online samples was underwhelming. Marvel at the features but not the results.

I also read somewhere that it's limited to 30 minutes of 8K capture.

Yes its 30 minutes but it doesn't say thing about waiting time. It also outputs 16k raw. among other things.

16-bit raw, not 16K.

Yep, more pixels, more fps, more features in a compact body as Sony always do...but still the same dynamic range, nothing new here.

Compared to previous, their latest promo clip is not that bad. Still grading is not very convincing, but at least it's nice to watch. Some shots are actually ok, others needs just a bit of warmth and you out of "old" Sony colors.

Sony's still images for the A1 were pretty lame as well. Of course, because I'm sensible, I'll reserve judgement until people are using the camera and putting it through it's paces. It's pretty interesting that they dropped Cinetone on that. I've seen some A7SIII users expressing some angst over that. It's a pretty amazing feat of engineering and yet at it's price, too rich for my blood, even used or discounted. I was surprised to hear that the pre-orders crashed B&H's entry system the other day at 10AM. I guess a lot people must have Tesla stock or something.
