Avid Artist Color not working in Resolve 17.0B Build 33

Hi all,

After intermittently getting my Artist Color to work, I'm back to nothing.

It's showing up in EUControl (the latest version). I'm on the latest Big Sur version.

The soft keys work in EuControl.

Davinci is selected in EuControl System Preferences.

Artist Color is selected in Davinci.

The artist Color has rectangles on the screen.

I have spoken to Avid at length and they asked me to speak to BM!

Hey Blackmagic – we really need some help here please. I've submitted a couple of requests. According to Avid, all should be working – it seems Resolve 17 isn't seeing the Artist Color panel properly. Thanks!

Hello, have Blackmagic completely abandoned support?

Several emails to support about this issue and other BM issues (Videohub, Davinci Resolve) have gone unanswered for months now.

I know you can't monitor every single forum thread but this has been an issue for me for months.

I got this to work.

I found a latest EuControl update here:

and after installation it connected seamlessly to Resolve 17.1.1 on MacBook Pro 15" 2019 with Mac OS Big Sur

Yes I can confirm it used to work.

What's confusing is that it works perfectly sometimes, and then loses all functionality.

The base functionality it normally retains is the use of the Soft Keys – but not the wheels and balls

If we don’t switch to another app, the panel works ok here.

Hi Rohit, that is possible yes – but no workflow could withstand not switching apps while working!

From what I hear, this issue started with newer versions of EUCON software. Maybe you can try an older version and see?

We went through all this last year, with Sierra and Catalina:

And you apparently never got that working?

Since then, the question pops up occasionally, and I've updated my iMac to Big Sur and Resolve 17.1.1 and Eucon 2020.11.1.10, the latest that seems to be available. I did this some time ago, and verified it's all still working for me, but that could have been with 16 or a 17 beta.

I've drug out the Eucon panel again and set it back up. It still seems to work flawlessly for me with Big Sur 11.2 and Resolve Studio 17.1.1.

I've also opened Fusion and Final Cut Pro on the system, and switching between them and back to Resolve, it all continues to work.

And as noted in this thread, others have it working. Perhaps that indicates some other issue with your system.

How is the panel connected to the Resolve Mac? Connected directly to a Mac Ethernet port, or through a network?

Do you have the panel set for DHCP, or are you directly connecting it with a hard wired IP address?

Have you updated the panel firmware to 1.1.11.0?

In the Eucon Preferences panel, in Mac System Preferences, do you have anything entered?

Also, in the Eucon app, on the Assign tab, make sure the "Lock to Application" checkboxes are all checked. And that the application listed at the top is DaVinci Resolve.

If none of this helps, then as before, I am out of ideas.

Everything is as you have it above, with one exception: the Assign tab.

For me, the options to Lock to Application are greyed out as shown in the attachment.

For now, my system is working.

Hoping this helps others; here are the steps you need to take.

1. No applications open. Ensure EuControl surface is powered on.

2. Open EuControl. Ensure your surface is visible under Surfaces tab, and selected under "My Surfaces"

3. Open DaVinci. (Ensure that Avid Artist Color is selected under Preferences / Control Panels)

4. Go back to EuControl, and select the Assign tab. At this point, you'll be able to Lock To Application – lock the Entire Surface, Transport and Monitor and Control Room to DaVinci Resolve

5. Rejoice, do a jig, colour the whole world. And whatever you do, never touch any of the settings ever again!

6. Buy Dwaine a drink.
