Your GPU memory is full -

PostWed Mar 17, 2021 10:01 am

I installed DaVinci Resole 17.1 and I have very often information that my GPU memory is full.
Project is not big, I just started learning Davinci Resolve.

I tried all the workarounds I found on youtube, Internet, forums: change CUDA to OpenGL, update/downgrade drivers. Also installed software on Lunux - effect is the same.

My GPU is Nvidia Quadro M600M and it has 2GB dedicated graphic memory, but it also has 16GB for usage from system RAM (attachement). Laptop is HP Zbook 15 G3.

I see that in DaVinci Resolve settings in GPU description it looks only 2GB of memory (attachement). I suppose that error appears because of BUG that it doen's discover rest of memory.

What else can I change, try?

PS. Is it possible to switch to Intel GPU (with lower performance)? It is grayed out and I can't chose it whtn I disable Auto setting.

2GB VRAM is not enough.

I'd look to get a new GPU with at least 8GB. More if you can afford it.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

8GB and 11GB are also not enough.

Resolve often just throws the error and you have to restart.

But this happens more often with Nvidia GPUs than with AMD.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

I wouldn't go as far as saying 11GB is not enough. I have never had that error occur on the 17 variants....yet. On the 17 variants DR doesn't even come close to utilizing all of my available resources. I had it happen on prior versions quite frequently, now I get memory leaks and unexpected crashes.

2GB shouldn't be enough, for me sitting idle with resolve just open and a two 1080 60 track project open, 1.5GB of GPU RAM is in use. I hit play and it goes to 1.6 to 1.8. Shared Memory doesn't count, over 2GB including shared memory usage.

Your problem is going to be finding a decent GPU. But hey if it's your business, you got to do what you have to do. Even if that means dropping thousands on a GPU.

I think Chad is referring to a bug in Resolve with regard to nVidia cards, which will throw up this error even when it clearly shouldn't.

Exactly. If there's a memory leak or some other allocation fault, then even 48GB isn't enough.
