Resolve - Full scale noise on audio outputs at project open

PostWed Mar 31, 2021 5:35 am

I recently installed the Fairlight Audio Accelerator card (CC-2) along with the interface (SX-36).

It's connected to a pair of Metric Halo ULN-8s via MADI.

Every time I open an existing or start a new project, I get a burst of full scale noise across the outputs. Not good.

Is full scale signal across the physical outputs or only metering?
Is the Fairlight Audio Interface the Master Clock or the ULN-8?

Across the actual outputs (and my ears - OUCH!) as well as metering (all clipped). Both when I start Resolve (right around the point where it brings up the Project Manager panel) and again when I either open an existing or create a new project.

Fairlight is the master clock and the ULN-8 reports being correctly clocked and synced to it.

See my other exciting post about Fairlight not getting audio out to the ULN-8 when running at 96kHz.

With the ULN-8 disconnected from both the Mac and the Fairlight Audio Accelerator, do you still experience full scale noise on the physical outputs when starting Resolve?

If the ULN-8 is disconnected, there would be nothing to connect to the physical outputs....

Since I'm using more than just Resolve as a DAW, I require the ability to use a separate I/O from the FAA as nothing else but Resolve will see it and work with it.

Cheers,

Connect the Fairlight Audio Interface (SX-36) to the Accelerator (CC-2) and please confirm behaviour.

I can try that, but I don't have any way of monitoring the output of the CC-2 or SX-36 without the ULN-8 in place.

As the pop happens on launch and project load, there are no meters to verify it on, but I do see and hear it on the ULN-8 in and outputs.

Will see what happens. I've not found a manual for the SX-36 (FAI), do you know if one exists?
